I HAVE BEEN ON 3000 MG SULFASALAZINE SINCE 1999--I HAVEN'T HAD ANY BAD SIDE AFFECTS AT ALL--ALSO AM ON MTX 8 PILLS A DAY

Thanks for info-didn;t know if it upset anyone elses stomach-Iknow I have a bad stomach from years of gerd.but splitting it up 3 x aday helps a little.  Thanks again

I only lasted about 1 week on sulfasalazine before I had to stop as I was so sick to my stomach, throwing up every morning, and constantly nauseated.  My RA doctor said some patients cannot tolerate it, so keep an eye on the tummy trouble.  I'm on prednisone, planquenil, methotrexate and enbrel now.

hi, i take 2 in morning, 1 at lunch and 2 at night, soon to go up to 6 in total.  But only today did i learn from a new nurse that the upset acidy foods such as tomatoes, orange juice, peppers and others cause could be down to the sulfasalazine!  she asked what i was on and then said well no wonder! lol

She also advised avoiding acidy foods with arthritis but i don't know if anyone else heard that?

I keep being nagged to go onto mtx but i don't really want to for now, but am worried about putting sulfasalazine up to 6.  ho hum, time will tell i guess

I have heard that aswell, but I'm not sure how accurate it really is though. I tried doing some eating tests on myself to see whether I can isolate the cause the flare ups to some sort of foods that I eat....but it's difficult to tell because some foods might have an effect have an x number of days. Maybe food doesn't even have anything to do with flare ups? I haven't been able to draw any conclusions from my findings anyways.
