How long for prednisone to take effect? | Arthritis Information

I recently saw a rheumatologist because I am experiencing pain and I have an elevated RF in my blood. My anti-ccp and c-reactive protein are negative.

The rheumatologist prescribed me prednisone and told me that I should see immediate improvement and if so than I almost likely have RA but if not then we are dealing with something else.

This is my second day on prednisone and so far I still feel all the same pain.

How long does it take for prednisone to work?
Hello All4her, my experience with 10mg Pred was nearly 3 weeks before getting relief. I have PMR and one of the diagnose criteria was relief very soon after starting on Pred. As its 5 years ago now I have learnt there is no hard and fast rule in the time Pred takes to work.
As its a few days since you have posted on here, I hope it has started to " KICK IN" for you!
Gentle hugs, LynThanks Lyn

I just finished up the 6 days of prednisone and it really did nothing for my pain. I see the Rheumatologist this week so hopefully we can figure out what is going on.
Just wondering how you are? How did your Rheumy visit go, sending gentle hugs, LynHello! I am new here and just started taking prednisonce 3 days ago. The pain went away almost right away. I still feel some discomfort in my knees, but it is not bad at all.
Hope you will feel better,
Anastasia
Hi AII4HER,
I too have had a slow reaction to prednisolone. After blood tests and typical symptoms I was put on 15mg per day, and told there should be dramatic results in a couple of days. When there was no improvement after a week, my doctor began to doubt the diagnosis. However after a second week things began to slowly improve. Nothing dramatic, but a little less pain and stiffness, getting out of bed, climbing stairs etc.
I'm seeing a rheumatologist next month, so shall be interested to hear what he says.

                  Good luck,

Mollycoo. I have Cystoscopies every 3 months which can set off an attack.  Due to the UTI's I cannot take the heavy duty RA meds anymore like MTX and Enbrel.  I stay on Plaquenil and Prednisone for now.
