Starting on Orencia | Arthritis Information

Been on just about everything else, am now starting on the synthetics. The info I was given says the infusion takes only about half an hour; sounds great, since Remicade takes over three.  Just wondering if the 30 minute estimate is practical.  Thanks! Yep, my Orencia infusions, which I got from a home infusion service, took about 30 minutes.  Hope it works for you!Thank you!  I've been on Orencia for close to two years.  The infusion is quick, easy and lasts 30 minutes as you've been told.   The only problem with the infusion is that you have to schedule a monthly visit.  I have mine at a close-by hospital in the out-patient unit.  We live in Arizona a few months of the year, and my doctor arranged for me to have it at a nearby hospital (out-patient unit) there as well.  I have taken low dose methotrexate along with the Orencia and then switched to Arava.  Neither drug worked for me.  Added 2 mg of Prednisone along with Orencia every four weeks in December and  it seems to be the right combination.  EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT;  I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK!!Thank you!  I'm looking forward to getting started on Orencia. I've been on Orencia infusions for about 2 years. I get them in the Ambulatory Surgery Dept at a local hospital. I usually figure 1 hour to 1 and a half hours altogether. The infusion itself does take only a half hour, but the nurses have to start the IV, order the meds from the pharmacy, etc. If the pharmacy is busy, it can take awhile to get to the floor, etc.

Good Luck! I've found it works well for me, although I did just have to start  back on Methotrexate weekly as well.

good luck!~
