Last year we had a great thread here with some terrific books...

Well, it's that time again.. Summer reading time.

What are you reading or what have you read that was worthy?

I finished reading Shutter Island and I am hooked on the author, Dennis Lehane.. I found out he wrote Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone, which are movies too.

If anyone has read the The Glass Castle.. (which I loved!!) Jeannette Walls has another book out called, Half Broke Horses which gives info about her grandmother and her mother before Jeannette was born... Great books!

Right now I am reading:  Yes! Your Teen Is Crazy!  another great book......  I find myself raising my fifth teen and while he is a good kid.. the world is even scarier than 10 years ago when I guided my youngest daughter through her teen years.

waiting in the wings I have the firs three books of the Outlander Series by Diane Gabaldon.. These were a gift from a dear friend who loved them and wants me to love them too!! ;)
I also have Stieg Larsson's books, The Girl who Played with Fire, and the Girl with the Dragon Tatoo in my kindle....

so.. what are you reading??  or what do you recommend?

Thanks!!
Just finished "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot.  Bunch of books lined up on the kindle right now, not sure which one will be next. Babs...I'm reading the Outlander serieis right now :)  I like it overall, but I'm finding book 5 to be a bit slow and repetitive.
Jas, I have that book on my Amazon wish list!!  What did you think of it?

Right now I'm reading "Fear the Worst" by Linwood Barclay.  So far I'm really enjoying this book.  Next on the list is Harlan Coben's "Caught" I'm never disappointed in Harlan Coben's books.

I couldn't put it down - I read it in a weekend.  Fascinating but tragic story.  I highly recommend it.  You don't have to be a science geek to understand the technical stuff in the book.
Recently finished "Empress Orchid" by Anchee Min - the story about the concubine who became the last Empress of China. It was beautifully written -- almost lyrical language. It is a very compelling story. I give it 5 stars.
Also grabbed the Alchemist while I was getting gardening books..... Have I told you that books are my addiction????
I'm reading Caught by Harlan Coben right now.  I really like his books.  I also like Elizabeth Berg.  I'm always pleased to find a new author I like.  I can go back in the library stacks and have a a lot of new material.
Love Coben! A co-worker loaned me the first one I read... And Berg..another good one!
She's smart and witty.

umm... I like reading some of the cooking books out there.. Have I told you I am in love with Bourdain??   Last week I finished the best book I have read in a couple years - The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It is so new it is only in hard cover, but I can guarantee it will be made into a movie because it is so good. I listen to audio books most of the time, which I did for this one, and it was fabulous "listen" although I have friends who couldn't put the book version down either. I'm reading "Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left" right now.  Interesting book. For action/adventure fans: anything by Lee Child is great -- and i love the "dark hero" Jack Reacher.
