Anyone have Nodule on their Back? | Arthritis Information

Share

I've not had any nodules up until now and my husband just told me there is a new lump on my back, above the small of my back right on over my spine, about the size of a grape. Doesn't hurt and it is a little lower than where my bra sits so I would never have known it was there, except for a little bit of itching.

I've read that nodules can appear anywhere on the body but are most likely on the elbow, fingers, or Achilles Tendon. Anyone else had one of these things take up residence on their back?

My RA does seem to be revving up again so if I was to self-diagnose, I would suspect it is a nodule.

Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

Truthfully I have not had any nodules, but I think you should get it checked out by your doctor. Especially considering that is in close proximity to your spine. Its always better to be safe than sorry. Good luck.

Hi Marigold,

I would be exceptionally cautious about self-diagnosing any sort of lump or mass.  We can't be sure what they are until a professional looks at it.  It could be anything from a Rheumatoid nodule, cyst, lipoma or it could be something that needs to be removed.  I strongly advise and encourage you to have a doctor look at this to be sure it is not anything that requires treatment.

Sorry to hear the RA is acting up

Thanks for the responses. I am planning to call my Rheumatologist this morning when his office reopens. I didn't mean to imply that I would trust my own judgment on this one - sorry if that's how my post read. I was just curious about the location of this thing - it didn't seem to quite fit the descriptions of nodules on all the Web sites.

I feel better today than yesterday so that can only be a good thing. This morning I get a brand new laptop at work after struggling with an old clunker - so, less stress in that department today too.

Hope today is a good day for you all.

revving up again, to the extreme.

went to the doc just the otherday now want to add humira to the plaquenil and the MTX 20mg/wk.  I called my pharmacy and insurance company and it looks like it will cost me about 0.00 every 2 weeks out of my pocket for the humira, which I can't possible afford.  Now I have to call the doc back and go another route.

Yes, I do have nodules but they are on both elbows and then, they also fill up huge with fluids, and she increases the MTX so they will go down.

every day seems like a new challenge

I get up at 5:30 am with my husband and take 4 ibuprofen and then go back to bed till 7:00 then up to stand in hot shower for as long as I can until I finally can move my fingers to wash

I can't imagine what It will be like when I get old (ha-ha)

thanks for listening, nobody seems to understand how bad it hurts and how bad I feel

We understand, Jackie. That's why it's a good place to visit on a regular basis. It reinforces for each of us that this is NOT all in our minds. It can be miserable. But - it can also improve so hang in there.

Improving is all I look forward to, I know from the past that it is probably juste that it has been so cold here lately.  I just try to thank god that Missouri hasn't even seen real winters for the last couple of years. Spring is right around the corner, then things start looking up again

I have always been a hot natured person untill the RA really kicked in. Now I am so sensitive to the cold.  I am learning really quickly to dress in layers.  Welcome to the site Jackie, I know you will like it here!

Jackie,

What part of Mo are you from, Im jsut about 1/2 mile from state line in Okla. I have had nodules on my spine in the cervical area. They are large of small can get to about the size of a walnut. They are rubbery and spongie, mine have been tender and some slight pain association, you should be able to tell if it is fluid filled by the feel I just described. If it is filled then your RA needs to draw off the fluid and get it tested as early as possible, testing the fluid if there is any can definately tell whether it is RA or not. Thes things can pop and cause sever problems with swelling here is a link to a site that you can reseach almost everything, I was looking at EBV and IM but you can look at other things to help with your answers. Good luck and let me know I am interested in this as something new, might help what I am dealing with. Sharon   http://www.emedicine.com/med/byname/infectious-mononucleosis .htm

Marigold, keep us posted with what your doctor says about your bump---or your hump---Hey that can be your song, the black eyed peas song "my hump".  UUUGGGGG, my daughter bought that CD and she keeps playing that song over and over again. Now when I here it (

My rheumatologist sent word yesterday via his assistant that if the nodule is still there in 10 days, or at anytime begins to change/get painful, he wants to see me ASAP, especially if the latter. He did not ask me to come in so he could look at the nodule for himself - I am, rather trustingly, assuming that means he too is sure that's what it is. It is not actually on my spine as I wrote previously - it is on my upper back, midway between my left shoulder blade and my spine so it's on a bit that is not bone - not sure what it is right there

Anyway, on Friday to further complicate things I got a call from my GP that my Hg is 9.7 and my Hct is 29.5. Would explain why I feel unmotivated and generally 'droopy' but having had clinical depression for many years I guess I am used to pushing through those kinds of feelings.. It's now 6pm here and I"m ready for bed and the depression never did that to me. Don't know if it's the mtx or some bleeding from a hiatal hernia or from the RA itself which is obviously doing something inside me! I was sent to have a colonoscopy/endoscopy in January for a somewhat low blood count but this is now lower than it was then. Colonoscopy/endoscopy negative except for an oozing (sorry) hiatal hernia. I have been lax in taking the iron pills - hopefully that will help keep it up but as you all know, I don't want one more pill to have to take. I already take a multivitamin that gives me 100% of daily iron.

My thyroid panel came back normal so that is not an explanation for the unstriven-for weight loss. I can stand to lose many more pounds but apparently because I am not actually dieting or 'watching' it is of concern that I am losing like this.

Any ideas?

When you get nodules on your hands or for that matter anywhere, do they itch?   I get them on my hands when and if I use them too much (seems to be the pattern anyway) and they are huge, red, hot, and itch.

Thank you all once again !!!!
