I am 47/F and I have TMJ along with jaw arthritis. i need braces for 3 years followed by jaw sugery then  another 21/2 years of braces. I can't wait that long. I want a nice smile and this unbearable pain to stop, it's been 7 years of suffering.

Oh, I am so sorry, capehigbee. I had my jaw lock for about a week several years ago. What a scary, painful thing. Mine cleared up over time, and I never had to do anything about it. Jaw surgery is awful to think about. What ever happens, good luck!! CAPEHIGBEE, HAVE YOU EVER TRIED THE MOUTHPIECES THEY SELL AT WALMART AND WEAR THEM AT NIGHT? I HAD A VERY BAD TIME WITH JAW PAIN AFTER HAVING SOME DENTAL WORK DONE AND DIDN'T THINK I WOULD MAKE IT THROUGH IT!!!!! COULD HARDLY STAND TO CHEW, AND IT MADE MY EARS AND HEAD HURT ALSO. IT REALLY WAS UNBEARABLE. A FRIEND TOLD ME TO GO TO WALMART ON THE TOOTHPASTE SECTION AND LOOK FOR THIS MOUTHPIECE THING. YOU BOIL IT AND THEN PLACE IT IN YOUR MOUTH AND MAKE YOUR IMPRINT AND THEN SLEEP WITH IT AT NIGHT. MINE FINALLY WENT AWAY. I ALSO HAD ALOT OF POPPING IN THE JAW. IT WAS MORE MY RIGHT SIDE AT THE TIME BUT SO FAR, SO GOOD AND I DON'T WEAR THE MOUTH PIECE ANYMORE. HOPE IT HELPS YOU. MELODYi can imagine your plight. my friend had one of the most severe cases of jaw lock and inthe end she had to have surgery to help cure it. there were times when she could only mumble between tight lips because she couldnt even open her mouth to speak.

What does your doc. say about surgery with your arthritis?  I had a similar surgery as a teen after about 6 years with braces.  I still have jaw pain and clicking on both sides and pain.  My teeth were terrible though and now I have a pretty smile.  I understand wanting to have that and am sorry for your pain.  It sounds like you might have a long road ahead.  As far as the no insurance thing... is there a dental college near you, or a medical school? Since you have so many things going on they may consider taking your case for free or lower cost.  This happened for my mother-in-law in the Dallas area recently.  I think you have to be referred to the school by your doctor.

I'm really sorry you are hurting...

hi all. my sister has been suffering from jaw problems lately. she is complaining of having lockjaws. nothing far too serious at the moment. but it happens when sh opens her mouth too wide. any advise for her please. little by little she is getting worried by this. I had problems with my jaw after having dental surgery. I couldn't fit anything larger than a french fry between my teeth. It lasted for over 3 months and I lost an incredible amount of weight. I thought I'd disappear. Steroids and a chiropracter finally helped, but I still have problems opening my mouth very wide, and like every thing else, it hurts. Good luck with finding relief. NO YOU DON'T NEED ANY OF THAT STUFF!!!!!!!

Stacy Polendo38992.3680555556 I have been told I need an operation as I have TMJ and PA in my jaw which I have put off as I have never been under the knife before.  Could you let me know if massage therapy actually works for you.  Cause then I will give it a go too.
