allergic reaction to swollen joints | Arthritis Information

Anyone out there have problems with with allergic reactions to swollen joints? If I get even the tinniest scratch on an inflamed joint, the whole joint swells and itches. I have pretty severe allergies to many other things but this is a new complication.  The rheumatologist says she's never heard of it before. When I have swelling, and this may be more because of the weather, I tend to have dryer skin on my hands. When my skin is dry, I react to every little thing. I even break out from the latex gloves at work, I am not allergic to latex-I only do this when my skin is dry.  Try using some good hand cream like Eucerine or Aspercream lotion.  The Aspercream is an old remedy for arthritis and is found by the muscle rubs. My mom used it for years and now it also comes in a lotion. I have the lotion and I dont know if it works for joint pain because I am always using it in conjunction with other things but it cant hurt, it is at least good for moisturizing, and it only costs a few dollars at Wal-mart. My mom says it does help her some. Hope this helps!!!Thanks Crunchy, Now that you mention it my skin is extremely dry. I'll try your hand cream and see if that makes a difference.Let me know if it works!!!Crunchy, believe it or not, I tried good old Jergen's hand cream last night and it seemed to help. Thanks. Linda. Bye the way, Do you have Sjogren's? I'm wondering if the extremely dry skin is related to that?
