I am a 62 year old male from Adelaide in South Australia and was diagnosed with PMR a month ago.
It took me 2 months and 3 doctors before i was diagnosed. I am currently on 30mg of pred and am almost symptom free. I cant believe the relief after only 12 hours when i started taking pred.
I am also an insulin dependant diabetic so the pred has realy messed up my blood sugar readings.
Early days yet but at least i can get out of bed and perform daily tasks.
Lots of good information in this forum i should refer the first two doctors who had no idea what was wrong with me to it gecsau

Glad to see you got a diagnosis after just 3 months, some people go a lot longer.

However, 30mg starting dose is higher than that reccommended in the UK  15mg normally but can be 20g.

Lots of information for a new person on www.pmr-gca-northeast.org.uk including the British Society of Rheumatologists guidelines issued June 2009.   Worth taking a look.

Also google Patients experience then go to Poly etc lively forum.

But come back here and let us know how you get on.  And the best news for you is that men seem to have less side effects and that is a blessing.
Mrs UK
I was started on 25mg and while it helped me a lot i was still unable to work so it was increased to 30.
I see the doctor next week and will discuss reducing it but i need to be able to work so its going to be  balancing act with dosage i quess.
Had doctors appointment today he has left me on 30mg of pred. I cant get into a specialist until next month so will have  wait until then to see about reducing the pred. Hi gecsau, just a hello and welcome from over the border in Victoria, Australia... It is a small world!

Sorry you have to be here but its so good to be able to 'talk' to other folk who know what PMR is! and to ask or vent as well.
I hope you are painfree on the 30mg pred and next month is not too far away as it seems the weeks are just rushing by.
My husband is whisking me away for a week to the beach, Port Fairy, tomorrow, We will enjoy the Queen's Birthday by the sea. Love It!
take care
Lyn
