Just got home from the visit with the Orthopedist.

We did x-rays of the hips and the knees..

my hips look good.. nice clean socket still there and should serve me well for a long time.

He said my bursa sacs are very swollen and his touch was very painful!!!  so we will do PT to help them.

but..
my right knee is a mess.....  I was fearful of that..  and the x-rays show several bad spots where I am rubbing and causing myself major issues..

He recommends complete joint replacement... at my time discretion.

I will have to work out some logistics and plan well..  but I will do this before year end.

That's too bad about your knee, Babs.  I hope it is a long time before you have to go for the replacement.  Good luck with the PT, and I'm glad your hip sockets have life in them! I am getting ready to have my right knee replaced also.  Not looking forward to it at all but the hope of pain relief makes the surgery worth it.  Left one is a mess also but we are going to wait on that one.  Good luck and I hope you have great results!![QUOTE=babs10]Just got home from the visit with the Orthopedist.

I read this article in the New York Times.   I thas a lot of good info concerning joint replacements.  I thought you might be interested......

thanks Lynn!!    I appreciate the article.. and the positive thoughts!!  Babs and Jules,
I  had left knee replaced nearly 3 years ago after suffering a lot of pain for some years - doc said it was "bone on bone".  OK, there is some discomfort after the op at first, and exercises to be done to get the muscles working again, but it is so wonderful to no longer have the pain in that knee.  I hope you both are able to have the op soon and enjoy being able to move around so much better.

Thanks lorrie..
I have to say this is the knee that was my FIRST joint bothered by the RA as a child.. and has had  previous surgery..  this isn't a completely recent development.. but it was definitely exacerbated by the flares in 07...

I'm considering waiting til Spring of next year..or escalating it to be done ASAP... that's how the timing works best for me... because I have a possible job change and a new grandchild coming in the mix!  and I'd like to weigh less when I have to start PT... LOL..   it's always something isn't it??
