FOR THOSE OF US THAT HAVE THESE PROBLEMS, HOPEFULLY HERE IS SOMETHING THAT YOU SHOULD GET CHECKED WITH YOU EYE DOC ABOUT.

tO ANSWER A PRIOR POST: I ALSO HAVE HAD VISION PROBLEMS, WHEN TO DOC FOR SLIGHT BLURR, GIVEN BIFOCALS, TRIED TO ADJUST TO THEM BUT STILL COULD NOT SEE. THINKING MAYBE THEY GAVE ME SOMEONE ELSE'S SCRIPT I WENT BACK. NOPE THEY WERE MINE ALRIGHT, DOC DID ANOTHER EXAMINE AND FOUND THAT WITHIN 30 DAYS MY EYES HAD CHANGES 25 PIONTS ON THIER SCALE. THIS IS SCARY, I WAS THEN DX'D WITH THE FOLLOWING, TOLD TO BE COMMON IN AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE'S.

Presbyopia

Presbyopia (Greek for "old eye") occurs when the lense of the eye becomes less flexible. Specifically, the lens becomes stiffer and the muscles that control the lens become weaker, hindering its ability to bend and flatten in order to focus light on the retina. As a result, the eye has difficulty focusing on objects up close.

First Sign of Presbyopia

A common first sign of presbyopia is difficulty reading fine print, such as that found on a medicine bottle or in a phone book.

Symptoms

Another sign of presbyopia is fatigue while reading a book or looking at a computer screen. Other symptoms of presbyopia include:

Difficulty seeing clearly up close

Less contrast when reading print

A need for brighter and more direct light for reading

Needing to hold reading material further away in order to see it clearly

Headaches that occur when doing work that requires near vision Symptoms

Vision at the patient's normal near point becomes blurred

Symptoms of uncorrected hyperopia appear

Pulling or eyestrain with reading

Complaints of fatigue with reading

Motion and function of eyes

Dry eyes producing a condition known as Sjogren’s Syndrome, as characteristic of RA

Symptoms of dry eye syndrome vary from patient to patient and may be one or a combination of the following: inflammation, burning, stinging, itching, a gritty sensation, light and wind sensitivity, blurred vision, sticky discharge, and eye redness. Watery eyes are sometimes a symptom of dry eye syndrome, because the excessive dryness works to overstimulate the watery component of the eye's tears.

I SEE THIS SUBJECT FLOPPED

Just because people do not comment on a subject does not mean they are not interested in the content.

Don't ever hesitate to post information that you think might be of interest to our group.

as Lovie said  give it time people are interested we have posted on this subject several times.  You just posted this today and not all our memebers have seen it.  It is a good article, and it is important for people to understand what can happen to your eyes.  I go for a check up every year now.  meme

nOW I MUST HAVE LAB DONE BY MY REGULAR RA DOCTOR TO CONFIRM OR NOT THE DIABETES DX. HOLY SMOKES WHAT WE GO THROUGH.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR EYES.

I'm sorry to hear that. When I realized last year that I was beginning to have trouble it scared the crap out of me. I think I've accepted the fact that in my later years I am going to have numerous restrictions. To think I could be stuck not being able to atleast watch TV, Read or work on a craft breaks my heart.

I took it very serious when I discovered what can happen.

    Sea,

That is a very good post. I have dry eye and dr wants me to use restasis. I do have blurriness once in awhile. I worry about my eyes. I am on plaquenil and you can have eye problems even though they are rare. Keep posting

I am going for an eye exam tommorrow, hope it goes well...I think my eyes are worse than last year when I had an eye exam.

This was some good info. I didnt know that RA even caused eye problems untill I starting posting on this board.

I have similar problems with focusing and bluriness. Part of it is due to Sjogren's which causes dry eyes and irritation. I think the plaquanil I take also adds to the mix. At first I was walking into walls. Now I have adjusted but I have had to have my glasses adjusted several times and the opthomologist says I have difficulty with focusing. This is not great because I'm an artist as well as a teacher. I have real difficulty with night vision and driving situations where I'm heading into the sun. One evening I couldn't figure out what color the traffic lights were. Scarry! If I'm driving at night(which I try not to do), I see streamers of light coming out of headlights and lamps. It,s very disorienting. I got those transitions glasses which are also bifocals.  They are ok for daytime but for reading at night or art work, I'm better with regular glasses.

Sorry....look for more typos than usual from me especially if it's at nights or on weekends. I'm really enjoying using the laptop because I can use it from the comfort of my warm bed....but it's taking some getting use to.

Lovie, I got my laptop as a Christmas gift from my husband and trust me, I am spoiled to it!!! Our desktop is upstairs and I love being able to lay on the couch with the big TV and my computer.  It took me a few days to get used to the flat keyboard and the finger pad instead of a mouse.  I was putting a pillow on my lap and then the computer on top of that so I could lay back and type. I was concerned about the computer getting too hot that way and so I bought a lap desk the other day and it is working great. It is just one of those things that is a flat board on one side and a bean-bag type pillow on the other. You might look into one, it allows you to angle the computer a bit so you have a little bit of a tilt to the keyboard and that makes it easier. I got mine at Target with the kids bedroom stuff---it is Hello Kitty. (I am a Hello Kitty freak!)

Yeah; I might look for one of those Crunch. I had to lay mine on a stack of pillows beside me. I couldn't take the weight for very long on my legs. Once I got settled with it beside me I liked it much better.

Still prefer typing on my desk top....but it's a nice treat to be able to surf the net and be comfortable as well!!

SEAGOAT60, THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE INFO ABOUT YOUR EYE EXAM AND WHAT YOU FOUND OUT. I AM ONE OF THE ONES THAT DISCUSSED THE BLURRED VISION. I GET SO ANNOYED BY IT. I AM ONLY 47 AND HAVE ALWAYS LOVED READING AND CAN NO LONGER SIT DOWN WITH A GOOD BOOK BECAUSE MY EYES JUST GET SO BLURRY I CANNOT SEE. SO IS THERE ANY REAL TREATMENT FOR THIS? I USED TO DO THE RESTATIS EYE DROPS ALSO AND THEN I QUIT. DON'T REALLY KNOW WHY...MAYBE I SHOULD CHECK INTO THAT AGAIN. IT HAS BEEN A YEAR SINCE MY LAST EXAM SO I GUESS I BETTER MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY THIS YEAR. AGAIN, THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE INFO!!!!!! MELODY Had a real problem with my eyes also.  The eye doctor sent me to an eye specialist.  They ran an MRI of my brain but it only showed changes in the lens.  I got new glasses and within a few months I couldn't see very well.  Like some of you my eyes have changed drastically.  I still haven't gotten new glasses and I still see times when these glasses work and then I switch to my old glasses and they work.  Just have to keep to different pairs around for the constant change.  My eyes are always dry and now they don't dialate on the left at all and only sometimes on the right.  RA is hell.
