"Nail textures: Vertical ridges that appear on the nail can indicate
disorders as simple as iron deficiency, poor absorption of vitamins and
nutrients, overall poor health or they could indicate something as serious
as kidney trouble. (So, you see why consulting your physician is so
important.) These vertical ridges, as well as bumpy nails, can also suggest
that one is prone to developing arthritis. Ridges running horizontally
across the nail can indicate physical or mental stress."

Over the past 4 years, I've developed these vertical ridges on my
fingernails. Has anyone else? Yes, nail textures can tell one's health problems. Consulting physician can not fix it, only you can nourish gradually the body system with selective foods.Yep, all is true.I agree. I have the vertical lines on my nails and they are also extremely brittle.

Yes; and mine are getting more and more noticable. I'm going to see what my RD thinks about it when I go back to see him.

THEY ARE A RESULT OF VITAMIN OR MINERAL DEFICIENCYSo what does RA have to do with fingernails? What's wrong with us that
isn't wrong with someone else? I eat a reasonably healthful diet. I take my
vitamins. I used to exercise a lot. All of my bloodwork came back great.
My blood pressure is perfect. Except for RA, I'm in very good shape for
my age. Until I see the doctor tomorrow, I'm not on any medicine, since
I'm off the prednisone.

I'll ask the doctor tomorrow & let you know what she says.PA can also cause the ridges on fingernails and toe nails.  Hugs and good vibes.I have minor ridges in my nails, my mom had really bad ones and she has RA.  I buff my nails about once a week and then add a few coats of clear nail polish/hardener to minimize the lines.
