Has anyone used restasis for dry eye? I know it's a cyclosporine product. I know they use cyclosporine as an anti rejection medicine when people have transplants. I wonder what the safety factor would be and how much might be absorbed into your blood stream? I'm going to look it up on the web too. Pat

Pat,

I have used Restasis.  It worked great for me.  It is expensive though.  My eye doc said to use one drop in each eye twice a day.  It comes in little plastic individual dose eye drop things.  My doc told me to open one, use it for the morning dose, then put it in a baggie and into the fridge and then use it for the evening dose.  My box of Restasis lasted twice as long that way.  Anyway, I used the stuff for about 8 months and then found that I really didn't need it anymore.  My eye doc said that is common.  Hope this helps.

Pam

I just use Refresh tears. They have a couple different kinds. At work I'll use the mild to moderate formula and at home I'll use the moderate to severe formula at night. It's a little thicker and takes my eyes a little longer to refocus after I use it.

It says the active ingredient in it is Carboxymethylcellulose. I have no idea what that is....but it has helped.

I was just dx'ed last summer. My doctor said to start with the OTC drops and see how I did. He thought I'd probable have to have prescription drops eventually but as long as these are working I'd prefer to stick with this for sure.

   Pam & Lovie,

Thanks for the posts. I had the rx filled today at work. It went thru my insurance so it only cost 20.00 for 1 mo. The instructions say not to use the vial more than once because of contamination but it seemed to work for you Pam. It seems like there isn't any bad side effects. The tests they have done on it said after 12 mo there was none in the blood stream. I guess I'll probably try it. Pat
