Too little meds | Arthritis Information

I started on Mtx in Sept/04 (injections) and was trained by my General Doctor's nurse on how to use it.  To make a long story short, she trained me wrong and I have only been taking .06cc instead of .6cc. In the meantime, I have been so sick and in so much pain.  The fatigue has been horrible.  My doctor gave me a total body steroid shot and started me on Imuran as he thought the MTX wasn't having any effect!!

I finally figured it out on my own when I statred to wonder why I was never needing to refill the MTX prescription and took everything, needles and all, to the pharmacists.

I am so frustrated. I feel like I have gone through SEVEN months of pain and illness for nothing. Also the shot is wearing off, the pain is coming back and I know I will have to wait awhile for this to click in.  Also I was getting mouth sores from the little bit I was taking. I am so depressed.

Thought I would post as it might be a good idea if you feel that a med is not working, to review with doctor to ensure you are on the right dosage!

Wowza Barb that's horrible!!!  I'm so sorry you've had to endure so much pain.  Especially when it was a mistake that really never should of happened.  I guess that's just another reminder that our healthcare professionals are only human and make mistakes just like the rest of us.  I certainly hope you find some relief soon.  Peace & Love...Neasy

Barb,

I'm sorry too that you had such a painful time of it. Hope it won't be long before pain is under control again. As an aside, if you are still getting the mouth sores (and the product you're using is not great) I highly recommend "Canker-Rid". No, I am not trying to hawk this product nor do I own stock in it or anything(!) I just know from my own experience that this stuff stops sores in their tracks! If you need tips on applying it, give me a post. Search for it on the web & you'll find how to order; it arrives fast too. Wow Barb...my heart goes out to you!  I hate hearing stories like this...knowing that someone has endured 7 months of pure hell that could have been prevented!  Keep your chin up gal!  This is the best place to be for support!

Just curious....are you taking folic acid?  Most people are prescribed folic acid to take along with mtx...that is supposed to really help with the sores.  I am on mtx and folic acid (as well as remicade). It would be worth talking to your rheumy about!

I take 1 folic acid pill each day except for the day that I get the mtx shot. I believe the pill comes in 1mg form if you're using the Jamieson brand....However, I think that you should consult your doctor for the correct amount that your body needs.

Thanks for all the replies. I am taking Leucovrin 70 mg once a week (supposed to be stonger than Folic Acid?? I take it the day after the MTX.) Also I get 1 mg of Folic Acid per day in my B vitamin.

Right now I am struggling with my Meniere's Disease big time. ENT doc says RA and meniere's are connected.  In addition have an ear infection. Also was in a car accident the other day and just found out that I have to pay 00 in income tax. See my Ent doc again today.

It has been a lousy week. I can use the hugs. Thanks so much.

I don't know if I just missed this...but have you spoke to the doc about hoe the nurse trained you wrong?  He needs to be told his nurse screwed up.  If there is an office manager they may also be someone to talk to.  Or if there is a more senior nurse.
hugs, wayney
I am so sorry to read about your week , and I thought mine sucked

Now thats a bad week!
