The symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are different depending upon the degree of inflammation of tissues. There are periods of flares and remissions depending upon the activeness or passiveness of symptoms respectively.

One of the most common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis is morning stiffness. And this lasts for about an hour. Sometimes there might be nodules or lumps under the skin due to inflammation of small blood vessels. There might be formation of cyst near the ankles which is due to accumulation of fluid.

The patient will have pain and inflammation in his or her joints. The pain, inflammation and stiffness are generally symmetrical i.e. on both sides of the body. However, it may also be on one side depending upon which side of the body is frequently used. Rheumatoid arthritis commonly occurs in wrists and knees but it may also occur in the joints of shoulders, spine, and elbows or at any other joint of the body. Symptoms such as fatigue and nausea may lead to fever. The symptoms might be similar to cold and flu.

All the above symptoms are indicators of rheumatoid arthritis. The patient must immediately seek medical attention when he comes across such symptoms.
