My knee problems began back in 2000 gradually they became painful an swollen very swollen my right was always the one that seemed to give the most trouble so much that I've been seen an had to wear a knee brace on the right one gone to the rheumy an had the fluid drained from the right. im not sure what they did for you. you can maybe private message crunchy she is a nurse and might be able to add some advise. are you on any meds for this?I had a similar experience.  Started as simple as the dog running into my leg, and it sorta bent backwards (not far, but smarted at the time).  Pain got increasingly worse until I saw an ortho who operated and "repaired" the torn meniscus.  Apparently tearing of the meniscus is a side effect of OA, and trimming back the meniscus only made the situation WORSE!  I ended up 18 months later with a uni-compartmental knee replacement (and a new ortho)!  My husband has 2 meniscus repairs, one good, one not so good.  They don't heal themselves.  Good luck.I fell out of a moving car in 1982 and tore my meniscus.  I had orthroscopic surgery and my knee was repaired.  I can't do knee bends or kneel on my knees... but that's if that's the worst of my problems, I can live with it.   It does get sore and swollen now and then, however the surgery was the best way to go for me.
Good luck to you.

A torn meniscus is a common wear and tear injury that happens to people even without complicating illnesses.  Once an MRI confirms the diagnosis, the surgical procedure is relatively short and minimally invasive.  Recovery is about a week or two.

I know several people who have had this procedure, and they've all said it was relatively easy to recover from, and that it brought instant relief to their pain.

Good luck to you...and hope you're back on your feet soon.
