Enbrel and problems healing | Arthritis Information

Has anyone had problems with skin infections and Enbrel. Every time I get so much as a paper cut, If it's close to when I take MTX or Enbrel it either becomes infected, or it takes forever to heal.  I just went to the dermatologist to have several precancerous spots zapped with liquid  nitrogen and they are now badly inflamed and might be infected.  This is 6 days after the proceedure. Also acne at age 59 isn't pretty but it's happening. Any suggestions from you medical types?Linda,  I have had problems with healing from Enbrel.  I am just praying that it has been bad luck, winter months, and my body adjusting.  I love how it makes me feel so I really don't want to change.  No acne but I had open sores, now those were ugly

While on Enbrel, many of my brown scabby thingies went away and I never noticed trouble with healing. Each person is quite different in their reaction to these many drugs, some worse than others. When I was on Imuran I was chronicly ill with pnemponia and upper respiratory infections, Arava gave me horrible pains in my abdomen........it takes time before you see how you will react to all these drugs.

Again, the MTX made it difficult for me to heal and it seemed as though I had infection after infection but at the time I was also on Kenalog injections so who knows. I always had several tubes of Antibiotic cream and bandaides handy....what a wonderful life eh?

Definately keep a tube of antibiotic cream on hand at all times. Dab some on any and everything that's out of the ordinary.

I take MTX & Humira and I've had tiny sores that took months to heal. I did show one to my RD once and he confirmed that is wasn't infected; but on MTX it takes a lot longer for even a simple sore to heal. I wasn't on Humira at the time....but it's the same thing with biologics too.

Thanks friends. Lovie I do think it's the methetrexate. I'll try the antibiotic cream. My rd says to use antibiotic cream at the most twice a day, morning and night, and best to let sores be exposed to the air.  Only use band aids if the sores are where they will get rubbed and irritated.  I took his advice, and it has helped sores to heal faster.  You have to let them dry out.  Just passing on my rd advice.
