Remicade Made from Mice? | Arthritis Information

WHAT?  Okay, So I work at an insurance company setting up preauthorizations and I see all the auths come across my desk to set up including ones for Rheumatoid Arthritis. One of the nurses that reviews/authorizes these authorizations came over and said he knew a lady that was on Remicade. She went to her basement to wash clothes and some mice actually started comming out in the open.  (Not so sure if I believe that story, but thought it was strange to say the least) She told him it's because they could smell the scent of this coming from the Remicade???   He said he spoke to one of the reps that distributes this medication and he told him to be hush hush about it and basically that it is made from mice.

I've never heard of such a thing...strange??!  Just thought I'd pass it along. Not sure if I'm just late in knowing this but , how wierd?

I started looking this up on the internet, found a few websites that did say part of it is made from mice..

"Remicade is a biologic, a product made from a living thing and sometimes made in a living thing. Remicade is made with the aid of mice."

"Remicade is made from a specially developed antibody (using partial mouse content-referred to as "monoclonal  antibody")originally known as cA2 which acts against TNF"

Remicade made with mice?  No wonder I crave cheese all the time!  LOL  I really do!   it has never been a secret that remicade is made in part with mouse anit bodies.  If I recall correctly enbrel uses antibodies from hampsters.  But the antibodies are then so manipulated that no mouse would ever recognize them again...sounds like the nurse or her friend was trying to pull someones leg.  SnowOwl: oh wow, now that you mention it, I have heard of people doing that (placenta)  LOL!  you make some good points!!  I think that just threw me off hearing that mouse story whether it was true or not. I just got this image if I were taking Remicade, of going camping, sleeping in a tent and in the middle of the night waking up with little mice friends coming to visit me.Buckeye:  Well, I'll be starting Enbrel soon...I'll let you know if I get the urge to run on a wheel or something! LOLI don't see why a remicade user would attract mice any more than a burger eater would attract cows. Jasmine:  LOL!!!!!!!!
