Public Transportation for Immune Suppressed... | Arthritis Information

Does anyone avoid taking public transporation or have your doctors suggested not to ride the bus etc to work  in order to avoid catching anything if you are taking meds to suppress your immune system?

I just started Enbrel, also take Methotrexate and Prednisone.
nope....simply take normal infection precautions but you don't have to rearrange your life for these meds
No...I teach so I always figured that I am surrounded by germs anyway.
Are immune systems are compromised, but not to the extent that you can't live your life.  We are nowhere as compromised as, for example, a cancer patient.

Good to know. I do remember my aunt when she had cancer having to wear a mask in the movie theatres, going to restaurants etc.  I hear so much hype about catching horrible infections etc while on immune suppression drugs that i would think staying off the bus might be a good idea. No where to run if someone's hacking away near you and its crowded! LOLI have avoided the public bus transportaion long before my RA. They are some of the most filthy, germ incubators I can think of. I do try not to shake hands and avoid social kisses. I always sanitize the shopping carts. I try not to touch anything that is too socially involved. I have been pretty fortunate since my RA that I have remained quite healthy without much sickness. I still have not gotten a flu shot and still have not gotten the flu. Not bragging, just saying. I wish you good results on your enbrel road.

Snow!!  you ruined salad bars and all you can eat breakfast bars for me forever!!  *sigh*

I once watch 3 well dress ladies go thu a buffet line with a fork in hand, and they would teste evrything  before putting it on their plate, using the same fork.   I have seen many people taste food in food lines.
I never worry about grems  but I do want my food fresh and clean.  Unless a person is dirty and smelly, I will hug or shake hands.  I worry more about the chairs and stuff in Doctor's office  or drug store while waiting.  I look at some people and wonder do they have lice or something.
Bathrooms are the worst, I will wet in the foor before useing one,  I will wait all day if I haft to,  I'm  just not going to sat on one.  I gusse I do worry about grems....lolrusty2010-07-28 17:09:17Snow and Rusty: ewww! I won't look at Salad bars the same again! Yeah I agree, public restrooms are discusting!!! You guys crack me up! Think about those little places that a janitor wouldnt think to wipe down like the little lock on the bathroom door and how many people after using the bathroom have to unlock that door and never gets cleaned off! Grosse Yes, but after you touch that little latch on the door--you go to the sink and wash your hands.  Don't sweat it too much!  I must add that public restrooms are just gross and seem to get grosser (if that is a word).  YUCK!Well, there went lunch today, was going to the Golden Coral with the gang.  I think I will fast
