Hi all. I am new here. I have suffered with RA and fybromyalgia for years. I have finally in the last 2 yrs managed to get disability and be able to give up working. Untill this thime tho, I managed just by getting by and a lot of people helping me. The doctors had been giving me toradol for pain and it worked great. I had a deal going that I would only take one a dfay. Now my doc has cut me off that because it is so hard on the liver. He gave me tylenol 3. They dont do a thing for the amount of pain I have . I have done accupuncture and thaTR HELPED A BIT. just wondering what others do for pain. I have extreem pain a lot of the time. My doc says we need to treat the desiese , not the pain. I dont know how to make him understand that I cant take the pain all the time . I need a break once in a while. I get to the point of being suicidal at times. My only saving grace right now is that other people give me painkillers sometimes. I would rather not do that tho but Im desperate
Thanks for listeningdo you mean tramadol? Toradol is mainly used for severe post-op pain or other acute problems, not long-term chronic pain. no I mean toradol. I guess thats why it worked so good. I have some tramadol from a friend and it helps some.

My RD doesn't like me to take a lot of pain meds either.  He says if I need them too often, then we need to change my meds.  Is it the fibromyalgia that causes you the most problem?  Can you tell him you need something a little strong than the Tylenol 3, but not as strong as the Toradol?

Thats what I wanted to know. So its not just me whos dr wont give pain meds. But your right I must remind him of my fybro. Maybe thats what causing most of my pain anyway. Thankssounds like you need to talk with your doctor and/or get a second opinion. Hello, my rd prescribes norco for my pain. The previous posters are correct in saying that if your pain is severe then maybe it is time to switch up meds. I use the norco at bed time, due to damage in my shoulders, wrists and hands and constant chest pain sleeping without the help of the pain medication is next to impossible. It took alot of years for me to accept that i need the pain medication to sleep, but I truley understand how the pain and lack of sleep can drive you crazy. The ra meds dont help with the pain caused by damage so sometimes there is no other choice but pain meds. Hopefully my ortho doc will beable to help with some of this damage so I wont always have to depend on norco to help me get a few hours of sleep. good luck,
Angel
Maybe ask for a referral to a pain management specialist.  I love mine.  A pain dr. should have several ways of helping you deal with the pain-not just using pain meds.  If this is a route you want to go, don't hesistate.  The wait can be up to months at a time for that initial appt.
