Help!! Major muscle pain | Arthritis Information

I have been feeling so incredibly well with my RA... I have little to no swelling.. and only in my left knee... but that could be something other than RA.. like overuse due to favoring my bad right knee which needs replacement.. (going to try the synovial shots if RD will give ok)

I am having a major issue with muscle pain.. on the outside of my hips.. the inside of the joint/groin area.. the pelvic area ... and sometimes the muscles in the shoulder area -- I had gone to see an orthopede because I was fearful this was osteo... the ortho said no.. but wrote on my script for therapy that it WAS Osteo arthritis...

I am seeing a PT who feels I have a bursitis issue.. But after five weeks of PT there is no relief.

has anyone had a muscle issue like this??

I am doing aquatic therapy, ultrasound massage, ice and feeling no positive results...

After yesterday, we are also doing some deep tissue massage.. (DAMN!!! THAT is painful)

I would appreciate any experience or advice  you may have.

THANKS!!
Hi Babs
I have had some muscle issues, and for me yoga helps very much.  I dont know about the joint problems, but I will go tonight and see if I can get some relief
Oh Babs,

I feel your pain..literally!

As everyone here already knows, I have avascular necrosis in my right hip.  It has been very painful.  I had a core decompression and that has helped...some.
Because of an accident I was in, I also have hip abductor pain syndrome and trochanteric bursitis in both hips

The hip abductor pain syndrome is a result of an inbalance in my muscles.  It too is very painful and get ready Babs...deep tissue massage is one of the treatments and it hurts quite a bit in the beginning.

I don't know if anyone has suggested this to you, but have you thought about getting a TENS unit?  I found it to be helpful with my hip pain.
Lynn!!!!!

Thank you!  I have the trochanteric bursitis!!  that is my DX... but I think it involves much  more and the therapy is not helping.

I would kiss  you if I could reach you right now!!.. just having someone who can commiserate this unbelieveable  pain!!!   I am stretching.. and I am working the deep muscle massage and have found a place that will do it a minute!  I am doing aquatic therapies and am looking to join the YMCA again for walking in the water ...

I am also being told I have such a tightness in the piroformis? muscle that is grabbing the sciatic nerve..  mother!! that hurts..

Please know that I will be picking your brain about this.

THANKS!!

Babs, I have the exact location muscle pain that you describe and I have not been to any doctor simply because they don't know what in hell it is, so they send you to PT, message therapy and whatever else they can think of.  So I have just been letting it run it's course and eventually it resolves on it's own.  Oh, it usually makes it's rounds going to another part of the body.  I have a good size tummy and I believe it pulls on muscles in the area and causes pain.  I also have a dropped bladder and that also causes  pain in the pelvic area.  I do the kegal excercise and that helps a lot.   Are we having fun yet??  LOL No kissing Babs

These two articles may help.  The second one is quite a bit older, but it still has some good info.

You also might want to look at Iliotibial band syndrome and if you have any tears of the hip abductor tendons (t they willneed to do an MRI)

Glad I could be of some help.  You really need to get ahead of this because it can become a chronic problem.

Lynn492010-09-15 09:54:57I had Iliotibial band syndrome before I got RA. Its a common cause of hip pain in women who run (those were the days..). Sorry you have to deal with this. I have chronic tendonitis in several joints because of RA. Our lovely disease seems to like to inflame anything it can get its hands on. hugs.. i think I have allowed it to become chronic..

I have had some of this hip pain for a decade  ........

I just thought it was RA  ...... babs102010-09-15 18:21:18

HEY,

GET A ROOM!
I got some ultra sound treatments on my ishical tuberosity at PT before just a temporary fix but can help with the pain. All of your muscles attach in this area. Sorry you are having this trouble.
When this first started they ordered my first full bone scan. Yes the areas we feel uncomfortable talking about. If you get ultra sound treatments at PT make sure you have clean underware. LOL I have had this for ten years.

Bursitis can occur and it effects all of these muscles. The swelling when bad goes from my ischical which is my bottom into the groin area which is OOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUCCCHHHHH!

About five years ago I was in the kitchen cooking dinner and my son and my boyfriend picked me up and carried me to bed because I was screaming. I do not know that if it made me feel any better to be in bed screaming than in the kitchen. It did make them feel like they did something to help me. LOL

Actually what I did was take a flexeril and take a nap. This being back in the day when my orthos said I had RA and the RD's said I had fibro. Prior to being RF positive and never having been tested for anti ccp. Not sure if they had envented the anti ccp test yet or not back then?

Flexeril a muscle relaxer is a good thing to have on hand. Pain meds a hot bath with epson salts maybe?

Have you tryed prednisone to see if it swelling related?

I am a muscle issue. I barely believe I have fibro because I have actual tendonitis bursitis of the body even in my face now. ARGH!

Well I hate to say this. I think maybe this is RA related.

My sister has started having this problem and as well in the shoulder and groin area. I told her it is not a good thing to follow in my foot steps.

I do not always take flexeril every night unless I am flaring because the Lyrica helps when I am not swelling. This past month I am taking my flexeril everynight.

If my groin was hurting I would certainly be taking flexeril and prednisone. Thats just me how I deal with it and it subsides from time to time like all of my issues. Most often I have an achy bottom or ischical. My groin area does not bother me as often. Probably because I know at what point to start treating with muscle relaxer and pred to keep it from getting to that point.

I hope you feel better soon.

Well I am in a flare so hmmm I took two five/500 vicoden, twenty mg pred and 100 mg of lyrica this morning. I took a flexeril last night. Currently my bottom hurts more than my jaw. Sometime later today my jaw may hurt more than my bottom. I am off to go soak in a hot bath.
