Hi,

Thanks to those of you who responded to my post "Do I have RA?"

I have another question, my rheumy put me on 30 mg prednisone to see if it would help with swelling, pain in hands and fingers.

How long does it usually take for prednisone to work?

Does it always work for RA pain and swelling.

THanks,I was first put on 75mg a day tapering down to 25 mg a day until the Rheumy appointment.
I was feeling almost no discomfort after two days and really thought I was fixed, wrong!
For me, Prednisone works pretty immediately. I usually start feeling better by the following day. It's a wonder drug for RA patients, but unfortunately, it's also the devil in disguise. Long term use has many side effects, so be sure and research it thoroughly. I hope it gives you some relief! It seems to work for me in less then two days, but I get off it as soon as possible.  Not good stuffIt work for me,  was like it was gone.  But o the side effects Ive had them all.  Don't  take any more than you have too,  A lot of people take low dose  with no problems.

Would I take it again....YESIt worked within 48 hours for me......but when I got off it I rebounded terribly. Never again.

The Kenalog injections in the joints work much better for me, though this is not always possible when many joints are flaring. That said, I've still had Kenalog injections in as many as 4 joints in one day and find that when it circulates through the system it helps the other joints. Then, when it wears off, usually after two months, I have no rebound.
Prednisone works almost immediately for me. It is the only thing I have taken that gets rid of the pain, but it has too many side effects to take on a regular basis at high enough doses to eliminate the pain.
