Got to see the rheumatologist! | Arthritis Information

Hello, all;
There was a cancellation so I got in yesterday to see the rheumatologist. He
was very nice and seemed very knowledgeable (although he looked about 19!). I
started on 20 mg of pred this morning. Hopefully, I will see some results
quickly. I am ready for relief! I will be returning to work tomorrow after my
knee injury. The ER doctor said it was a sprain, but the rheumy said it was
most assuredly a pulled muscle; he said he could feel it.
He said he felt mine was a mild case of PMR, and he was confident that we would
be able to get a handle on it quickly. It was an encouraging visit. I go back
in 4 weeks. Also, he was very supportive of our group here. He said it's
important to be able to talk to people going through the same thing as you. :)
Roxanne Hi Roxanne,

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you'll have a short stint and recover quickly.  I have to wonder what made the Rheumy decide that you have PMR given the diagnosis of a sprain or pulled muscle?

Take care.
RickF2010-10-05 12:50:38No, the PMR didn't have to do with the knee. I had posted way back at the beginning of September, when my family doctor had wanted to treat PMR with depo medrol injections every 4-6 weeks. After my second injection, I had asked the folks here if they had heard of that treatment and everyone suggested I see a rheumatologist. I had an appt for Nov. 8, but then got the cancellation. It was just coincidence that I managed to hurt my in between times muddying up my symptoms for when I got a chance to get in to see the doc :)
Thanks, I hope it will be a short stint also.
Roxannebumping this up..2 months after my knee operation I got PMR......I was told it was coincidenceMost people who develop PMR have a history of a stressful event or period in the recent past - it may be moving house, family problems, illness or an operation. I doesn't look like coincidence and there are some doctors who don't think so!
