question about MRI | Arthritis Information

Hi Everyone,

I have posted in the past about my symptoms, both sided joint pain in hands, fingers and wrists, shoulders, feet, and knees. All RA related bloodwork came back negative. I just had an MRI of my wrist which says trace radiocarpal joint effusion. The MRI was supposed to also include my joints closest to my hands but they weren't mentioned in the report. Can ayone tell me what this means? The report also says no deterioration from arthritis obvious at this time.

This sounds to me like a negative MRI. So after all this testing, still pain, doesn't sound like RA is a possiblity. Has anyone had these types of pains and had the diagnosis of fibro?

I did take prednisone recently and felt alot better when I was on it. As I tapered off of it, the pain got worse again....?????

Thanks,SunnyDaze,

I have been having the same pains.  Unfortunately, no diagnosis yet.  I have had x-rays that were negative but that was 2 years ago.  I'm hoping that when I go back next month the rheumy will send me for x-rays again or an MRI since I recently had a pretty painful flare that lasted 2-3 weeks.   I saw my family physician for depression and he noticed that I was rubbing my arms and he mentioned that it was fibromyalgia type pain that I was having.  I don't think fibro. affects the joints, does it?  I thought it only affected the muscles.  That's what makes me think I have both RA & fibromyalgia, because I have muscle and joint pain.  Sometimes I have both joint & muscle pain at the same time and sometimes I have one or the other.  I'll see what the rheumy says when I go next month and I will keep you posted.

(sounds like a 70's rock group!! ;)

I think that with RA you get muscle inflammation as well.. I was swollen EVERYWHERE.

I looked like I had gained a ton of weight.. All puffed up and inflamed.  Never had Prednisone back then so the puffy face and tummy can't be blamed on that.

Hi Jen,

Thanks for your post, now I don't feel all alone with this, whatever it is!! I too suffer from depression and vitamin D deficiency (on 50,000 units of vit D weekly). I sure don't want RA or Fibro, but would like to know exactly what is causing all the pain. I will look forward to hearing about how you make out at the rheumy, I go back in a couple of weeks and will let you know how I make out also.

Take Care,Hi Babs,

Thanks for your reply, my tummy is extremely bloated, but I have been on prednisone for 5 weeks. It is a terrible feeling to be all bloated up. I swell in my hands mostly, but I also have pain in my feet, shoulders and knees. Don't know if it's fibro or ra. Hopefully, I will find out soon.

Hope you are having a feel good day!!

Take Care,
