Has anyone had any experience with mrsa infections?  I had a nasal sore in my nose that cultured + for mrsa. It was treated with atb's, cleared up fine, had 3 negative cultures.  A month later, it's baaaa-ack. Postiive culture. again. I was told that I can not get my mtx / remicade until I get three neg cultures, again. I caretake for my parent who is mrsa positive, so imagine that it will be hard for me to stay negative for long.  Is it possible to get rid of this mrsa stuff? Will I ever be able to take my ra meds on a regular basis?  The thought of returning to fully unmanaged ra terrifies me at this stage. Help!

Barb

Thanks again.

Got MRSA while on Methotrexate.  Once you are exposed, you are considered collonized.  You do not state whether your mom has open sores?  The ONLY way to cure this is vancomyacin IV's.  Got three places on me and it created pus filled sores the size of a tennis ball.   tHE CENTERS START TO DECOMPOSE AND IT IS very SERIOUS.  Had to be in isolation in hospital and have my wounds cleaned and drained daily and the sores had to heal from the inside out.  And that is after i HAD EMERGENCY SURGURY!  You have to get off methotrexate so you can heal because it supresses the immune system.  MSRS is derived from staph which lives in the nose and the skin.  When you have a suppressed immune system and have a break in the skin it enters the body.  You can get it from a mosquito bite, cut, any break in the skin.  It is highly contagious and anyone carrying for someone has to use gloves and disinfect EVERYTHING.  Even after I came home from the hospital, I was kept in isolation from the family.  All my towels and beddin g had to be bleached and washed in hot water.  Anyone dealing with anything in my room or anything I touched had to wear gloves.  iT WAS A HORRIBLE ORDEAL!  I still have bad scars from it.   Karen

I'm trying to locate a picture of MRSA but haven't had any luck yet.

I always get what I thought to be bug bites - mosquitos, spiders, flees - bugs seem to love me. Could these bites not be bites at all and actually be MRSA?

I have what I thought to be a spider bite on my left hip. It was bright red and sore for 2 weeks and just started to fade this week. It was about the size of a golfball but not perfectly round. More oval. It was warm and sore to the touch. There seemed to be a bite mark in the center.

After the ridges on my fingernails and memory loss everytime I see something posted here I think, "OMG, do I have that too?" Hahahah!
