Flu shot | Arthritis Information

As it's flu/cold season and I have an awful dose of one right now do you recommend having a flu injection when you have R.A. I have never had one and have been a bit wary of doing this. Has anyone had any adverse reactions???   Thanks. My doctor gives me a flew shot each year.  I have never had an adverse reaction after getting it.  I don't know if it will help with your current cold/flu. I don't think I have had a bad cold in years.  It is funny that all the meds lower your immune systems but I have been very fortunate not to catch the bug! Knock on woodA dose of what? You have the flu?   Please clarify.

Never get a flu shot any time you're feeling sick on the day of the shot.

I think the flu shot is a good idea for most people with RA and those with autoimmune disease. I've had them for a number of years with no problem.

However...................a couple years ago I got a Tdap booster and since then the flu shot has led to a huge arthritic flare.  So I no longer get the shot. But that's just MY weird body. Don't let it stop you from getting it.
I have bronchitis/pneumonia.. whatever it is I have....

and my PCP said to wait til I am healthy to have the flu shot..

So.. get over your cold and then make an appointment.

I don't know what you take for your RA..but many of the meds make us immune suppressed and we need to help ourselves stay healthy.. At least that is my opinion of this situation!
When healthy, get the flu shot.  I got mine last week.  It actually took about 2 weeks for the drs to agree to let me have it since my immune system is sooo shot.  They were afraid I wouldn't even make the antibiodies.  We were going to wait until my system was more in shape, but that doesn't seem to be happening.  So, I got it-we'll see if it holds.  Figured it would be better to try.

You'll get debate back and forth regarding flu shots.  It isn't until you know someone who has been gravely ill or who has passes away until you realize the importance of a shot.  our school almost lost a child last year.  No med probelms and then bam-flu.  Scary stuff.

A few days of feeling like dirt is worth it in my book.  But, as with all medical stuff, everyone has their own opinion.  I don't know what meds you take or what your overall general health it like.  When in doubt, talk to your dr.
