Hello, I have had rheumatoid arthritis for 15 years- however it has only really flared up in the last 6 months. I tried Methotrexate, it gave me headaches and I only took it once. Should I have persevered with the mtx? Doctor suggested my next option as avara or sulphalazine, what do others suggest?

Thanks, Lynda

Definitely hang in their longer than 1 treatment, or try the oral dose first and adjust to it then try injection.  That's what I did, and my body had no problem adjusting to the injections.

Take care

Hi Lynda,

I am currently taking 3000mg of sulfasalazine a day with 15 mg. of prednisone.I am having an upset stomach from it.I'm drinking lots of milk to keep stomach coated,it helps.I think with all medicine you have to hang in there a little while to see if it helps.Hope you feel better.

Hi Lynda,

Definitely stick it out for awhile and see if things improve. I was unable to take MTX pills, but had no problems at all with the injection form. The shots don't hurt and you only get it once a week. MTX is a good drug that has worked well for a lot of us. Good luck.
