Great way to start the week! | Arthritis Information

Thank you all for the advice on the MTX, it opened my mind alittle more! I see a new Dr. in May so Ill have to wait and see if mtx is what he puts me on. In my area, medical facilites are of poor standings, I am currently only on ibuprofen alone for pain control, but the swollen joints and stiffness are always there unless I am constantly moving, and thats not very hard with four kids and a full college schedule! Ive only posted once, but all the feed back has been more support than Ive had in two years! I have a feeling this is going to be a great week!!!!!I am glad you found this place and are feeling hopeful.  Advil, frankly, is practically nothing to me.  Maybe it works for you, but really, you could have a much better quality of life on better meds if they work for you.  You deserve to have the best quality of life possible.  We all do!

Sounds like you have a heavy plate.  I commend you.
I started my first dose of MTX two days ago.  I honestly feel soooooo much better, but I don't know if it is the meds or just happen to be feeling better.  I have been on prednisone for two weeks, so the initial misery was already gone.

You know I  love Ibuprofen for almost all kinds of pain, but it has not really helped my RA pain very well. My mom kept trying to get me to take asprine because that is all she uses to manage her RA. I was resistant at first, but I took it for about 2 days and I really noticed a diference. Unfortunatly I have had upper GI problems in the past and I had to lay off of the ASA for a while because I was getting a little reflux from it. The doctor did tell me that I could just take some Mylanta when needed and continue with the ASA if I wanted. I still take a low dose daily, but I am going to increase it a bit since I am starting to flare and am not on prednisone anymore. Anyways, I know that was like my life history with ASA, but maybe you could give it a try instead of the Ibp. and then also combine it with tylenol...good luck.

If it does work for you it is alot cheaper than some of the others!!
