Moon face | Arthritis Information

Maybe some of you that have made it to lower doses of prenisone can tell me when to expect a reduction of the moon face side effect?  I've also developed extra fat in my neck area and that is not pretty.  I have noticed a reduction in the moon face going from 15mg to 9mg but at what point does it all go away.

Also I have gained about 10lbs in weight.  Did you start losing weight while reducing the pred?  None of my winter pants fit me now that I wore last year.  Of course most of the weight is in the middle and good old menopause hasn't helped that either.

Thanks for any replies.
russelcat - I know this won't be a welcome hint, but you did ask  !  Fortunately, I found exercise that I actually enjoy: disco dancing by myself in the privacy of home.  And, I find that Splenda is a tasty sugar substitute.  My biggest current compaint is the thin skin that results in ugly bruising of my arms, because I am such a klutz.  If anyone has any suggestions for dealing with that, I would greatly welcome them.  Meanwhile, I continue to wish for all of us an increase of energy and decrease of pain! Two of us (both on steroids) were discussing the skin thing last night - and found both of us don't shower every day and keep the use of any form of "soap" on our skin to a minimum. This avoids the stripping of the skin's natural oils and helps a lot with avoiding the dry, flaky and delicate skin - I really have to hit myself quite hard to develop a bruise. Neither of us likes the feel of skin lotions etc but I suppose that might help too.
MrsE

My Prednisone dose is down from 15mg to 5mg for the past two months and I still think I have the 'moon face'.

As for the weight gain, I put on a lot of weight in a few months even though I walk or cycle most days, I am just trying to be careful with what I eat now and my weight has been the same for about 6 weeks but I do feel uncomfortable and clothes are a bit tight around the middle which I hate.
Thank you, MrsE, for the skin suggestions.  I will definitely try them both.  I've been using a bit of lotion but will increase that; and I'll eliminate the soap on my arms, since they rarely get "dirty" anyway . For a long time with this disease, my weight was actually down, but not anymore.  Before I was diagnosed, I dropped about 12 lbs without even trying, but that is a symptom of the disease. I wonder does it sometimes take a while to develop the prednisone face?  I'm jealous of you.  How did you ever get away without getting moon face.  Mine has gone down some since I'm below 10mg but I can still feel my chubby cheeks when I wash my face.

I don't wash my face - just stand under the shower! One way of not noting the chubbiness!   My moonface is totally gone. I think it went away when I went below 5mg. Thanks marianne, I was hoping someone would say the moon face finally goes away. Mine is terrible right now, but then I have been on high doses of steroids and they are not sure if I have PMR or RA. I am still tapering from 60 mg/day. Now at 25 mg/day and moving to 20 mg. Guess I have a way to go before I lose the moon face, but hopefully some day!
