Do blood pressure meds generally cause flares? | Arthritis Information

Hi all...I am 65 and untill 2 years ago always had low to normal BP.  Now it is what my Dr. calls borderline.

Doc first tried me on Lisinopril. but I was alergic to that. Then I tried Benecar and Bystolic and both cause me to flare to the point where I have to quit them.
Has anyone else had this problem and are there any suggestion please?
I take EC Naproxyn, Enbrel & Methrotrexate for my RA and have had it for 31 years.
I've been on Benicar since it came on the market. It's a godsend. I've never known it to make arthritis flare, as my flares are intermittent. [Seems to me that if Benicar made arthritis flare it would be a stable increase of constant flaring. But that's just my logic talking.]

In any case, according to the drug trials:

Other (potentially important) adverse events that have been reported with an incidence of greater than 0.5%, whether or not attributed to treatment, in the more than 3100 hypertensive patients treated with olmesartan medoxomil monotherapy in controlled or open-label trials are listed below.

Body as a Whole: chest pain, peripheral edema
Central and Peripheral Nervous System
: vertigo
Gastrointestinal: abdominal pain, dyspepsia, gastroenteritis, nausea
Heart Rate and Rhythm Disorders:
tachycardia
Metabolic and Nutritional Disorders:
hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipemia, hyperuricemia
Musculoskeletal:
arthralgia, arthritis, myalgia
Skin and Appendages:
rash

Bear in mind that the population tested could have had arthritis and myalgia.....meaning that the drug didn't necessarily cause those symptoms, but that they would have occurred without Benicar.

If you're flaring and wondering why, you might consider that it's a normal flare and that something else is triggering it. Benicar is the last thing I personally would blame.
Hi Sam, I didn't realize I had a response yesterday...sorry.
I guess I wasn't clear because I have no doubt that the Benicar and Bystolic cause me to have flares.  I can feel pretty great and after about a week on them, I feel increased pain in almost every joint.  Over the last 2 years, I have tried numerous times with the same results.
I was just hoping that someone that might have had same results, had found another BP med they could take without problems.
I take diltiazem, generic Cardizem, and it does not increase my arthritis pain. I also take Lisinopril in the evening. I used to take a diuretic and it did lower my bp and did not cause me any additional pain. There are a lot of different bp meds available. Hopefully, they will find the right one for you soon. Thank you Vee.  I will check into Cardizem.  Right now I am just hoping my heart won't be damaged by not taking meds for BP, but I know the danger is there.
