turned down by SSI | Arthritis Information

It has been a long time since I have checked in around here. Mom's health isn't doing so good. We just found out tht she has had 1 or 2 silent heart attacks. It has left the bottom part of heart dead.

On to the subject at hand. I applied fro SSI over 6 months ago with numerous medical problems tht totally afftect whether or not I can even get out of the bed. I was turned down! I was told that there was nothing to support my heart disease! I don't have heart disease - my father died of heart disease and that is what I ut dowwn in the part that asks abbout.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if I should resubmit on my own or go ahead and hire a lawyer? Any input will be appreciate.

Your friend,

Teah,

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother.  You will all be in my prayers.

About the SS, when I applied, I was denied.  I filed a reconsideration on my own, and was granted SS.  Denying benefits the first time seems to be the norm for SS.  As for hiring a lawyer, I don't really know what to say.  If you're denied a second time, it's even more of a hassle to try and get benefits, and you'd probably have to hire a lawyer anyway.  I guess I'd get one now, just to be on the safe side.  But then again, I had a neighbor who had a lawyer when he filed the first time, and was still denied.

Sorry I can't be of more help.  SS is a tricky thing.  Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Teah checkin with Janis, Islandwoman, she just got her ssi and I know she went through alot she's listed at this board and Kimmy's new board too.  I would suggest getting a lawyer, but I haven't had to apply for SSI yet.  I am so sorry things have not been going well, but I am sure gald to see you again. Teah!!!  xoxox Meme
