Plaquenil | Arthritis Information

Hello, all.

I have been taking 400 mg of Plaquenil for six months, and it has helped me tremendously. My rheumatologist changed the prescription to 600 mg a day the end of October when I saw him last.

Question: Can Plaqunil cause a sore tongue? I lowered my dose to 200 mg to see if that would help. It seems to have helped a little, but maybe that is all in my head...???

The joints in my hands are starting to hurt again...like they did before I stared the Plaquenil. I guess I will go back up to 400 mgs and take it from there.

I know I need to call the doctor, but I thought I would do a process of elimination first. If it is the Plaqunil that is causing the sore tongue, does anyone know if this is a "harmless" side effect, or if it indicates I am having a reaction to the drug and it needs to be stopped?

My ears are also "ringing" from time to time. I have read that this can be a side effect of Plaquenil

Thank you in advance for any input you may have.

Peace,
VHi Vee
I have taken 400mg of Plaquenil for a couple of years, but not had either of the problems you are describing.  I understand that whilst taking Plaquinel it's recommended to have regular eye tests to check for any changes to vision.

As you say, it is probably best to contact your doctor, especially with regard to changes with your hearing.

Hope that your Doctor is able to sort this out for you.
