For someone that went through bad reaction after bad reaction to allergy shots in the past. I am thrilled to say here we go again. LOL

Well I have an expert giving them to me this time verses someone consulting with an expert. Also the testing was done by skin testing this time verses sending off blood to be tested.

So the first time around for me I did get helpful results that lasted for years. I quit getting them before I finished the full recommended amount because I had been to the eroom for epi so many times in a short period of time that I was litterally loosing my mind.

This doctor takes every precaution and is strictly by the book. The skin testing being more accurate so the potion is properly made. This is the most important part of the process in my opinion.

Can you believe that the doctor insisted I be of well health in order to get the testing done? LOL Mirical of miricals I managed to be close enough to well health to make it through two weeks of testing and can start my shots in few days.

As to be expected I now have a massive sinus infection. I felt hot last night and tossed and turned myself to sleep. I woke up with the worst headache imaginable and pain in my chest. I called the doc and got an answering machine. So I called the nurse practioner and was told to come right in. Horray! I Still feel awful but at least I got some meds. So hopefully I will be well enough to start my shots in a few days.

I guess the biggest surprise was to find out that I am allergic to dust mites. That is never a good thing. As far as  severity goes ragweed is the worst and probably what I have the most potential to react badly with the shots. Of course I am allergic to grasses and trees of all sorts and cats. I did not actually get a list printed out yet just going off remarks made by the doctor during testing.

I do remember questioning the testing years ago when they said that I was allergic to ragweed but not very badly. I knew in my heart that had to be wrong. So that mistake alone being corrected could be what it takes for me to have a more pleasant out come this time around.

Wouldn't it be nice to not have a terrible sinus infection all of the time? To be just a little healthier in my fight against RA. I will take all of the help I can get.
Hi Milly,

Good to see you here again. Thought of you many times.

levlarry2010-12-11 08:36:44Missed you on here Milly.  Good luck with your allergies.  I have them too and it's not fun.  I almost chickened out but I got my shot.

Starter dose is easy very small dose. I took a nap and I do have a small reaction site. About the size of a nickle. Now they said if it was the size of a half dollar for a day or two they would not encrease the dose next time that they would wait longer before they raised it any.

I told her gradually would be a good idea scince I had trouble with  upping the dose in the past. That is they raise it gradually for everyone I just need it raised slower than the norm.

I did not really expect alot of trouble today with the starter dose. That is as I remember I did alright with the first dose in the past. Still even small amounts help. So baby steps I guess.
I've been getting allergy shots for year and sometimes get huge site reactions                  (3-4in across).  They would just scale down the next dose.  It takes longer to get to the maintance dose, but it will happen.
Hopefully these injections will help you out.
Years ago I tried it and I had a site reaction bigger than a baseball so I quit getting them. I really hope things go better this time.

I really may have continued if I could have trusted the person giving them to me. She talked me into continuing and sayed she would lower the dose and then guess what she did not lower the dose. She said she was sorry but that she thought I could handle it. Based on what I have no idea?

I think I gave up my fourth trip to the eroom to get an epi shot. Oh my! It is not good to get too many epi shots it does things to ones mind. I cried for days just too much epi in my system. On the other hand my allergies were better for years. I guess I got enough in me to help a little bit before I quit.

I wish I knew at what dose I reacted badly? I probably could not rely on the old records. I mean if she lied to me how accurate would the records be?

Anyway they know how to handle a reaction the size of a half dollar and mine is smaller than that so I feel good about it.
Hi Milly! Sorry for all the problems you've been having, hopefully you'll have better luck with the allergy shots this time. Like you said, to be a little healthier in your battle with RA, would certainly make the battle a little more tolerable! Good luck!
