My old RA doc whom I loved never mention Plaquenil to me before but the new one prescribed it my first visit but says it took a long time to work so I was curious - if you were put on Plaquenil - did you notice any improvements and if so, what were they and how long did it take before you saw results? abbyrhoades2011-01-13 00:53:13I was on Plaquenil and it took three weeks to notice any difference. After three months, I noticed a much larger improvemet. After six months, I was almost painfree. It was wonderful for me, and less toxic, per my Rheumy doc, than Ibuprofen. But........I had a reaction to the Plaquenil and had to stop taking it. I wish I could still take it. It really helped me with pain and stiffness. Hope it works well for you. Just remember, it does take some time to work. Peace, V took about two months for it to help me.  Those first two months were not pleasant - nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite - even lost around 5 pounds.  Finally, after a couple of months, the side effects faded away (or I developed tolerance?) as well as the RA issues in my hands and feet.  I've been taking it for a couple of years now.  Still, if I get a stomach bug (or the occasional hangover) I'll skip it for a day or so, since it can still turn a minor case of nausea into an acute case of vomiting (but then again I've always had a hairtrigger puke button).
