So I have creepy looking toenails. | Arthritis Information

I duno? Maybe PSA or a fungal infection. I am not HLA-B27 positive so I really am not all knowledgable about PSA. I just have freaky toes and creepy toenails? I mean my toes are not shortening or sausage digits yet. They do feel like they will burst open from the swelling sometimes.

Does RA or anything else make your toenails get really thick and turn colors? Like brownish yellowish.? I will point it out to the RD next visit of course. I could barely get them cut last time I tried. Not all of them just three of them I think. The color thing is new. I noticed them getting a little thicker but something more dramatic about now then last I noticed.
mind does and some of them come offby layers gross if you find what to do let me know
Probably nothing that you can do I guess. Ware thick socks so no one can see them I guess? I just had to trim it down cause it had a strange shape and was changing color. Yes the layer thing.

Well at the moment I am more concerned about my thumb and shoulders. They just ballooned up. Right thumb at the base from the wrist to the thumb joint. I think I will go back to the doctor tomorrow. I will not be surprised when I wake up in the morning if more stuff is swelled by then. It is the worst my thumb has ever been so that can not be a good sign.

I had no energy today. Just layed around like a bump on a log. A bump on a log with a headache.
My right side is getting in on the action. I was wondering when that would start up? It is not holding back much either. Ususally it does not take this long to swell up. It has been waxing and waining in my hands and wrist. Now it is jaw. elbow. hands shoulder. So I got up to take my pain meds. Well I will try to go back to sleep. RD should call back in the morning.

I was reading about avascular necrosis as being a side effect of high dose pred in some people for unknown reasons. I guess I never noticed that one before. Scary stuff.
those are signs of a fungal infection

I agree with buckeye. Sounds like a fungal infection. I knew someone that swore that Vicks vapo rub cured the fungal disease and there are quite a few studies that actually proves it. After reading up on it this morning, apparently it will take months to completely cure but I guess that even if you use the rx drugs, they take months also. Anyway, here is a couple of links about Vicks and nail infection. The Mayo Clinic also states that Vicks works.

Also other remedies are grapefruit seed extract or tea tree oil.

Apparently the reason that it takes so long to cure is that the toe nail has to grow out from the beginning of the treatment.

LEV
Good l
thanks levlarry, vick can be used for so many things,  if put generously on the soles of feet with socks it can stop a night time cough within  5 mins.  funny if you put garlic on feet you will taste it 20 mins later
thanks levlarry, vick can be used for so many things,  if put generously on the soles of feet with socks it can stop a night time cough within  5 mins.  funny if you put garlic on feet you will taste it 20 mins later
I went to site and it is very intresting gives a lot of good ideas.I will try the Vicks. I have used fungal stuff but no results. I even put my skin prescrition on them for the longest and maybe I gave up too soon or maybe it just came back on me?

I sort of am a fungal infection over use of abx and Sjorgren's makes me a perfect breeding grown for fungal infections.

Good old Vicks Vapor Rub. I was eaqually as much of a problem child when I was a child as I am now. Always had strep. Dad would take me to the doctor for abx of course but he always plastered my neck with Vicks and put a big { Clean of course} work sock around my neck and pinned it with a saftey pin. I usually gave him dirty looks when he made ware the sock around my neck. I was afraid the safety pin would come undone and poke an artery while I was sleeping.

Potato Soup with oinions and Vicks are the two things my Dad believes will cure a sore throat. I have to call him tomorrow and ask him where my potato soup is? Yum it sounds pretty good! Actually you are not supposed to have any milk while on Cipro, sigh!
Hi, Milly,

I have creepy looking toenails, too. I have that fungus that gets in the nails and it has spread to every one. I am using some OTC liquid "stuff" that you brush on, and it helps a little. I was wondering if there is an prescription med that gets rid of it, other than the pills. I don't want to take anymore pills! LOLMy roommate in college had this problem.  She took Lamisil for it.  It's a prescription and the dr. told her it could take up to a year.

So, if it is a true fungal infection, you probably want to get it looked at.  Fungal infections can spread, especially those of us with funky immune systems.

Start now and you might have pretty toenails for the summer!
The pills can sometimes really be bad for the liver. Also well there are like seven hundred causes of nail problems or something like that so I would want to be sure if I was going to take a pill.

I am also allergic to alot of antifungal stuff. Pills for fungal infections just are an issue for me. They tend to make me quit breathing. I sort of like breathing so I do not take them. I will try something different if I get good results I will let you know.
Sounds like a fungus. BTW, prednisone users are more apt to get toenail fungus than the average....
