happy  New  year  to all   I have  been doing  quite  alright  slow  and steady seems to be my format for success     I have  a question   Having been on prednisone for about a year now  I have  developed  quite  the budda belly   any  help  from those pioneers before me as  to any remedies  other than stopping the roids?   thanks! Happy New Year to you too!

The best tip for weight loss when taking steroids is strict control of carbohydrates and a decent amount of protein. I do wonder if abdominal muscle exercises might help - is there a bit of muscle slackness from the steroids contributing to the abdominal shape???? I think we almost all have the same problem - it's certainly part of the steroid fat deposit story! Some people on the UK site have said it took them quite some months after stopping steroids for the weight to start to drop.

Parker you are not alone.  I've been on prednisone for 8 months now since being dx'd with PMR.  Started at 15mg and just started 7mg a week ago.  Feeling pretty achey right now but I have an appt with rheumy in two days and hopefully will get some help.  Not sure if it is fibro, PMR or arthritis at this point.  Winter is always a killer.

Back to the subject at hand.  I too have gained about 15-20 lbs and none of my pants fit me anymore.  I've still got moon face too but it has reduced some since going below 10mg.  I was doing ok until winter arrived and the activity level decreased.  I just can't take the cold very well, makes my poor old body ache that much more so I stay inside most of the time.  Like you, most of my weight gain is around the mid section.  You do have one thing going for you being male.  I am menopausal which also tends to make any weight gain move to the middle.  So we females get the double whammy!

I'm trying to keep the weight gain at a minimum so when summer comes back around I can get outside and walk it off.  At least sweat some off.
