RA: Elimination Diet and my Experience | Arthritis Information

Hello everyone, I just joined to post something I feel is important. A year and a half ago, after a miscarriage I started getting RA symptoms. I put it off for a year and only got to a Rheumatologist 3 months ago. I have been on Hydroxyquin for three months and when I went back to the doc, she said I would need to start on some of the heavy duty stuff. She never explained what the drugs were, just that one would cause birth defects and I would need monthly blood testing. I asked her about food allergies and how I wanted to try to eliminate that as a cause and you would not believe how fast she ushered me out of that room. ALSO just a question for you guys, I was thinking of not taking my Hydroxyquin anymore. Just to "make sure" that the results are in fact from the diet. Is there any reason to not take a break? I don't have another appointment with my doctor for months and she did not give me an opportunity to ask her. I must admit I have been badly forgetting to take my pills anyways. You should never go off any medication without first checking with your doctor. If your appointment isn't for a few months, please call and discuss over the phone.

I have tried the elimination diet, and I've also tried antibiotic therapy...both of which didn't work for me. I'm glad the elimination diet worked for you, but please check with you RD before eliminating any meds,
I have not tried the elimination diet but There are certain foods/chemicals/additives that aggreivate my RA.  I don't eat Red meat anymore nor can I have Red sauces or Vineger or mustard any thing with vineger sends me into a flare. I try and stay away from dairy but it is very hard love Ice-cream. Good luck with that. I heard if you do 85% raw foods(Veggies) and 15 % cooked it helps alot to.Boy do I miss cheese :(  I hope it is not dairy as I just love a cheese and cracker tray as a snack.

Vinegar is one of the things I need to test out next,I just bought organic ACV and I hopeit's not a trigger. I'm sorry the diet didn't work for you Brisen, that is great that you tried it though. You're right, I won't go off the meds. I don't think the meds would make me feel this level of relief either so I am safely chalking it up to some kind of food reaction for the bad flareups.

I will update when I figure out what my triggers are. If I give one other person the desire to try out this diet I will have achieved my goal!! I did not think it would give me any relief and after 1.5 weeks I had almost given up hope.  I feel worlds better. I am typing without pain right now!!

Thank you for reading :)
