So YIKES! I am for certain going to get ice and snow and wind. Very many many people will be in harms way.

I think the ice will start Monday evening and night. Then snow and wind. The amount of ice for my area is questionable. Most probably a half an inch of ice. Some freezing rain at times and maybe about six inches of snow by the end of a three day straight winter storm.

Lots of wind which of course would make the snow drift and not so good for trees coverd in ice.

Some of it tomorrow will actually be rain for a few hours.

So Northern Illinois I believe will get twelve inches of snow. With the wind expected that would make for some big drifts.

Well I will let you know as long as I still have power how things turn out on my end.

I know alot of people will be effected so let us know how you fair. One degree one way or another will make the difference for me. Several hours of 34, 33, and 32 degree weather before drop below freezing and get snow. I have gotten a few different reports on the amount of ice expected but I know some people are going to have a hard time of it.

So I may get a quarter inch of ice or more Monday and then for certain Tuesday ice followed by some serious snow Tuesday and Wednesday. Some salt shortages have reported on the news by the country having so much snow this winter.

Yesterday was the first day that I could get out and walk safely in a week. They have not been doing such a good job with roads and alleys ect. the past few snows we have had.
I guess it is probably due to the salt shortage. I was starting to thing that the town was broke until I saw about the salt shortage on the news.

I hope that things have changed salt wise because we sure need some salt for this storm. I guess it is two storms but one is about two hours or so behind the other so it will all seem like one long storm to me.

I have some salt but I do not think I am going anywhere. Maybe the hospital if the power goes out. It is close by and I would think they would have a generator? If I get hypothermia they would have to let me in. I think maybe they would let me in before I got hypothermia?

I will be praying for all of you.

Great advice from Snow Owl..

and yes.. the weather stations are all about the drama to get viewers to stay tuned!!!!

We are expecting the bad weather too.. I am going to bake if I can't get into work... I am stocked up on all things necessary to survive.. and hope that we don't lose power.. I may have jinxed that when John was talking about getting a generator and I said.. nah.. we rarely lose power  *y i k e s*
Well I am supposed to get a quarter of an inch of ice tonight and an inch of sleet. Tomorrow through tomorrow night three quarters of an inch of ice two inches of sleet and then an inch of snow Wednesday morning.

That is the latest report for my area. So not so good. I know that they dramatize things sometimes. Well they are saying 90 percent and 100 perecent chance of precipatation. So yes that is pretty well drama.

I am not totally freaking out yet. I may be freaking out in a day or two. I will survive I am sure they will have a place for people to go. They said driving will imposible. More drama I guess from the national weather service. I think my nieghbor lady has a fire place. Maybe she would share?
So far I still have power. It is not good at all outside.

The ice just keeps getting thicker. When the high winds hit later this evening it will not be good. The temps have dropped to 31 and even 30 degrees but rain continues to come down and freeze on contact.

Maybe around five pm if we are lucky it will turn to snow. The weather forcast have not said this but I am hoping. Well temps were supposed to drop down to 32 at five pm. It is colder than that now so if the temps drop again at five then it would be 29 and that should turn things to snow I hope.

Still that is two hour and fifteen minutes away so we will have more than enough ice by then to make it dangerous when the wind increases to 35 mile an hour gust. The sustain winds will be 25 to 30 miles an hour so not so good.

I heard that the winds will be much worse in Chi town. JasmineRain I hope you have some help with the snow shoveling this week. I heard in excess of twelve inches of snow and very very strong winds. Well I have heard worse than that I am hoping they are wrong. Stay safe everyone.
No snow here ...yet.

A blizzard warning is in effect through 7 pm Wednesday.

The wind has been howling all day and it's frigid!

They are calling for anywhere from 12 to 18 inches of snow

Here's the story from one of the papers...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With 16 inches of wind-driven snow predicted to fall in south-central Michigan, the National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning from 5 p.m. today to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

While the snow will take a while to develop, the weather service used dire terms to describe the impact of the storm once it hits this evening.

The combination of falling and blowing snow will lead to whiteout conditions, forecasters warned.

"Do not travel," the weather service advised. "If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle."

About an inch of snow was predicted to fall today, with another 11 inches overnight and 4 more inches on Wednesday.

Winds will gust to 40 mph at times.

Lynn I think I would just stay home in that mess also. We have had alot of school snow days this year so my county had school today. Then they sent the kids back home by lunch. I seriously think the roads were icing up by lunch so it was not the smartest idea to have sent the kids in the first place.

We had two systems back to back. So we are waiting on the bad storm to hit but still have been getting nasty weather for twentyfour hours. I have not seen one salt truck yet and it is solid ice outside.
Hello, everyone. I live in north central Missouri, and we are in the midst of a blizzard at the moment. We had ice yesterday and last night, then came the snow. It started around eight this morning, and has not stopped since. Not supposed to stop til tomorrow at noon. The winds are howling. So far, we have two foot snow drifts. Hope everyone is safe.
VWell ARGH! So it is 32 ice and not supposed to do anything but bounce back and fourth from 34 to 31 until 3:00 A.m. . That will make for lots and lots of ice.

Vee how much ice did you get?
Hi, Milly,

We only had about a quarter of inch of ice, but that was enough! The roads were slick and my windshield wipers were icing up yesterday. Mostly we have snow...lots and lots of snow and wind. We have whiteout conditions now. I hope the Arctic Cat can clear the driveway tomorrow. We will have to wait til the afternoon if/when the winds settle down. Wind chill is supposed to be around -20 tomorrow. Is it snowing where you are in Illinois, Milly? My area is due to get this storm starting about midnight here.  Winds and snow--I think about 15 inches or so.  We ususally get double what they predict but they are saying it is on its way.  Being born and raised and always lived in the NE--it is really just another storm.  Luckly I think it is too cold to ice up but the wind is supposed to produce white outs.  Work never cancels (darn!).  I also have a dental appointment over my lunch hour tomorrow--I am hoping they call and cancel it.  Hang in there everyone!Over here in Australia we are about to get hit by the mother of all cyclones.
One report says that it would nearly cover the whole of USA.
Battan down the hatches Stephen ! 1/2 inch ice overnight hereWell Stephen I hope you are safe. I have never heard of any such thing.

I am fine so far. I lost internet last evening. The power was surging when I went to bed. I have seen reports of power outages on the news from areas very close by. I honestly am surprised that I still have power.

We had our trees trimed a few months back. Had to the tree cut the power line in half during a wind storm.  Currently we are getting snow. I could hear the branches and ice falling and hitting the roof last night so I guess people were out working all night.

The wind has stopped and that can help alot. Still the trees are covered in ice with snow falling on top of them so sort of a wait and see. On the news they said the power companies were prepared to work for five days straight if neccasary. That they had workers in from other areas.
I saw on the tele last night some clips of what people are going thru with the cold snap over your neck of the woods.
It looked to be very cold, more cold than I think I could withstand.

Our cyclone has by and large come and gone.
Early reports are that the damage is not as bad as predicted.
The current media are all over such events hoping for  major destruction.
More fear generated the better it seems.
Hope everyone is ok--both with the winter storm and the cyclone.  Wow--what a week! The weather news is horrible everywhere except here, thankfully.  We're sunny but it's cold 9 degrees this morning but I won't complain, it could be so much worse.  Even Tahoe and Reno, an hour from me are in a good weather pattern.  Please stay warm and safe everyone.  LindyCouple feet of snow here in the Chicago 'burbs.  Kids got a couple days off of school.  No power loss or any other problems.  Thankfully we had stocked up on raw potato juice and SPAM so we wouldn't starve in the apocalypse.  Jasmine, you are too funny. Thanks for that outloud laugh.

LEV

Jas, was wondering about your and your family but now I can rest easy because you have the food situation under control.....LAUGH OUT LOUD! Glad you are doing well.

Well sometimes a little drama would be nice. I guess everyone put all of thier eggs in one basket. I saw on the News a few days ago that another storm was out of the question money wise for one near by city.

I just woke up to five inches of snow. So I read the hourly forcast for tomorrow. It still says it will be 38 degrees. It keeps saying rain/ snow and then it says 36 degrees and just snow. That is not possible so maybe they are too lazy to change the temps or something.

Anyway this a surprise snow storm. The one they did not want to admit to. They finally said last night that we would get a few light flurries for a short time like three hours. That was supposed to end ten hours ago.

What ever tomorrow and then Monday we are supposed to get snow. Wednesday snow.

So my friend called last night and invited me to Florida. I really do not have the energy. Plus just getting to the airport would be hard to do. I admit it I hate flying. Mostly I am just tired and I do feel like doing anything.

I want to get my hair cut but outside of that I just have no other goals in life at the moment. Maybe just tired from the abx. I have an appointment Monday. I just do not know?

I would be really happy if I made it to Florida I guess they have doctors there. Just I have never flown alone before. I have never flown in a storm either. I do not feel like packing so I would have to buy all new stuff when I get to Florida. LOL

Seriously I think I will pass. If I go to Florida I will not want to come back home. I know I do not have the energy to move right now. LOL

I guess the point of the story is that the weather has me beaten down to the point I have lost the will to have fun. That is a tragic event.
