Trolls on Message Boards | Arthritis Information

Share

Message boards are the Internet version of centralized communities. Users of common interests gather to discuss their interests. Just like other communities, there will always be members that cause trouble and generally annoy the community as a whole. These nuisances are just looking for attention. Ignoring these message board trolls can make the experience more enjoyable for everyone involved

  1. 1

Realize that their messages are a waste of time and energy. Letting Internet message board trolls get under a person's skin is an effort in futility. What they post on message boards is not about you. Do not take it personally.

  2. 2

Understand that message board trolls do it for the attention. If they are given that attention, it just fuels their passion to post annoying information. If there is no reward, they will eventually go away or stop posting.

  3. 3

Understand that message board trolls are all about themselves. What they post is about them and not specific related to the topic they are expounding on. The statements a troll makes may be asinine and make your blood boil, but understand it will impossible to change their minds or alter their views. The troll is posting on a topic specifically for the attention and not about that specific topic.

  4. 4

Leave the message for a few days. Often these trolls become bored and leave or get banned from the community after a few days. Putting the keyboard down and just walking away is often the best solution.

  5. 5

Ask the moderator to ban the message board troll. While this is not totally ignoring the troll, it does not give them the satisfaction of a direct response. With enough requests, the user will be banned and the problem will be solved.

Lynn492011-02-01 08:29:37The last I heard, this board is unmoderated. So how does one ban a member?

Sad that you had to post that message at all, Lynn49. It's unfortunate that in recent months some longstanding members have a sole mission to bring other people down, totally destroying the tone of some of the otherwise  informative posts.

And you wonder why many of us no longer post here.

Well  Sam, there is a remedy if you find posts offensive, vile or demeaning...
I've found it to work when dealing with the spammers, so perhaps that might be a solution for any of your objections....

Lyn, I have had a lot of that thrown at me and others.
On this board those rules mean nothing.

Anyways, have a good day.
Bodak2011-02-01 22:49:04Have you ever tried in your mind to envision what these trolls look like?  I envision long straight very oily hair, the body wreaking of body odor.  Their fingernails are fill of feces and long. Their teeth are green and full of bacteria germs.  Their mind is cluttered with hate and disgusting thoughts.  Am I describing a human being?  HMMMMM? Snowy, I enjoyed reading this tale.  My grandkids often speak about bullies at school and they would fall into the same category as trolls.  I will share this story with them.
Thanks!
I think this statement by Ronald says it all.

"IF I HAD LISTENED TO MY DOCTORS I WOULD BE IN A MESS RIGHT NOW."

He is what a mess is. He's not a man. A man doesn't call women whores and sluts and c**ts. He's not a man. He is nothing but a pile of puke. That pile of puke may look like a man, but it's pure vile puke. He didn't raise himself. Do you wonder whether his Dad Curtis called his Mom those vile names? I'll bet he did. The nut didn't fall far from the tree. Has anyone here ever seen a bigger mess? He's a deranged mess. He has a message that is worthless. Worthless. He's worthless. He doesn't know what he's talking about. He thinks that because he has lived to be 65 years old, 66 this July, he gives all credit to the way he eats. As if living to the age of 65 is some great feat. He's a blooming idiot. Seriously, any of you that moan and cry and complain about your disease(s), would any one of you want to trade your disease(s) for the diseases that Ronald has? He is a mess. Think of how lucky we are that we don't have his disease. And yet, he goes around bragging about his great health. Fortunately, we have drugs that can control our disease and give us a life with hope and actually a worth of living. Ronald will never find a cure and will never find peace or a worth of living. As everyone can see, his potatoe soup is not effective against his disease. He's a mess. He is a mental mess.

[QUOTE=SnowOwl]Quelle surprise, "Sam".  You think it's oh-kay to call members "c*nts", "gutter sluts", "drug whores", "idiots", to accuse them of bringing their disease on themselves because they're morally and/or intellectually inferior beings, to accuse them of being "murderers" because they don't agree with your choices, to kick them when they're down?  Whatever.  Enjoy being a survivor here, you and the trolls.

ETA, and for the record, I've tried to be fair.  I've tried to be reasonable, to discuss, and my posts are still considered unacceptable by the folks who think their way is the only way to deal with health problems.  Lynn and others have posted many, many posts about potential therapies dealing with nutrition, herbs, spices, exercise, things that are not pharma-centric, and yet they're accused of being "drug pushers" and subjected to abuse and scorn.

I'm at a loss, don't know what else to say.  People believe what they need to believe and too many people just like to stir up trouble and attack people who don't believe what they believe.  Go ahead, poke the bear, stir up the hornet's nest.  Beats civil discussions of possibilities for people in need.  Call us "c*nts" and I hope you sleep well at night, it must be nice to have no conscience.

And I am surely at a loss as to why you would even associate me with the first paragraph of your post. I don't know where you get off saying that I've ever used any of those words. You owe me a serious apology. It's pretty disgusting.I find it ridiculously easy to ignore the inflammatory posts. Not sure why everyone can't do the same.
