Prednisone Weiners LOL | Arthritis Information

I know most of us are not lucky enough to be able to wean off pred.  I am praying I can stay off of it.  Anyway, I am discouraged as I have not lost weight in the almost two weeks I have been off.  I have found I am much more stable in my moods.   I have definitely been eating less and exercising more.  Can you other prednisone weiners  <my face lolWonder if the prednisone has anything to do with the fights I keep picking with my husband and the depression I carry around like a black cloud?I definitely feel the mood swings. They are very noticeable to me.  I get very irritable.  I keep saying it's the prednisone, but others might think I'm just a b#tch in general.  Trust me - PRED CAUSES MOOD SWINGS I'm right there with you Roxy. I have been off for
about 3-3 1/2 weeks! Can't believe I haven't had to
go back on it yet. I lost about 8 pounds, but nothing
more. I'm very anxious to loose one of my chins and
quit being puffy.

I'ts good to know that lots of you have experienced
more weight loss over time. I'm hoping that will be
my experience too.

One thing I've noticed since being off pred is that my
allergies have been REALLY bad. I had forgotten
how bad my hay fever/allergies were. Has anyone
else had their allergies get better while on
prednisone?

I'm not completely off the pred yet, missing the Enbrel because of my chest infection set me back a bit, but I have dropped 3 dress sizes. Not sure how much I weigh but I feel I look better than I did at least - still got these chubby cheeks though

Tara, steroids will help allergies because they suppress the immune reaction - when I went into anaphalaptic (?) shock they pumped me full of huuuuge amounts of IV steroids.  In fact I think I first developed hayfever after my first burst of pred was reduced. Strange huh?

Tara, now that you mention it, I've been thinking that my allergies haven't been acting up this year (I usually get serious bronichtis right about now) - in fact, I feel better than I have for a long time. And no mood swings. I have done so well on this stuff, I'm sorry it's evil.

Moonie-How long did it take you to loose 3 dress sizes?  That's great

And about the allergies, I noticed last year that I had very few problems, when normally I would have bad allergies, bhroncitis, etc.  It was always a big problem for me.  Now it's back!!  I'm thinking about taking a 5mg once or twice a week to see if that helps.  What do you guys think?

I've been weaning off the Pred for over two years now.  My moon face is gone down but, the weight hasn't budged.   However, I also have Addison's disease ergo, I HAVE to take daily steroids.  I just try like heck to keep my carbs in check.   I know that the carbs are the worst on the steroids. The Prednisone controls the inflammatory response so allergies of most kind are going to improve, but if that is the only reason you take them, you should talk to your doc first. Pred. has serious long term use side effects. You dont need to take it if you can take something like Clariton or Allegra instead, You can only handle so much prednisone. You should reserve it for situations of absolute neccesity.

Tara, I started reducing the Pred in July last year (from 50mg), and have lots most since around Christmas. I'm starting to look like myself again but it means I've spent a fortune buying clothes to fit my changing shape!

It does take a lot of patience, but once your levels settle down I'm sure the weight will come off. I've been here before having been on Pred for 10 years now - 2mg is the lowest I ever get when I try reducing so I'd really like to get off it completely for once.

Good luck to all,

Moonie x
