I'm new to this forum and so glad I found it.
I have been researching polymalgia on the internet on behalf of my mother who was diagnosed with it about 8 months ago.
She is nearly 60, has an underactive thyroid (for which she has been receving treatment for for about 18 months) and has been prescribed prednisone to relieve the polymalgia. She has been on 15mg per day for 8 months but is still in so much pain so has to take about 6 ibuprofen a day just to get about.
The doctor has told her that she must lower the dosage of steroids but everytime she does she can not cope with the pain.
Recently she was prescribed methrotrexat but after speaking to a pharmacist friend about the drug decided against taking them as the list of side affects were endless.
Has anyone else struggled to reduce their steroid intake?
I didn't want to try the methtrexate but I have two babies here that need the mom to do what they can and to try to live as normally as possible. I've been on it only for a week so I can't say anything good or but it supose to take 3-6 wks to show any improvement and 12 wks for the full benefit. what ever that is.
you never know until you try.
