How magic has played a part in my life. | Arthritis Information

In a earlier post I stated that I'm a HUGE fan of David Copperfield. I'm hoping that this post will put a smile on your face and help you to understand who I am and what I enjoy doing.
On Aug. 7th, 1991, I enter a darken showroom at Caesar's Place. I wanted to see this David Copperfield show as two of my co-workers had raved about it. I didn't know what to expect as I had seen very little of his TV specials. As the music highten so did my expections. I would not be disappointed. And so began a journey into the world of magic.
This man was doing these illusions and I just sat there in awe.
After the show, I raced down to the lobby to get into the autograph line, in those days he would sit there signing autographs. I brought a fan club package as I wanted something to remember the night. Plus I had taken the little show folder from the table where I had been sitting.
Mr. Copperfield came out, sat down, and one by one we went up to him. When my turn came, I was so nervous that all I could do was hand him the small folder to sign and stare at his feet. As I walked away, after he had signed my folder, his people and security, called to me. I had dropped the small folder on the floor. I had to go back and pick it up. Not a easy task when you have a fused hip joint with bad knees. I try to be as ladylike as I could be. I turned beet red but I picked up that folder.
Later, in my room, I went through the folder and saw the fan club address where you could write a letter to Mr. Copperfield. I started this letter to him. I wanted to tell him about how much I enjoyed the show and to thank him. After several days and several drafts, the letter was ready. So I mailed it. Days went by and then months, no reply to my letter. Most fan clubs send you a little form letter back, thanking you.
I finally made plans to go see his live show in Dec.,1991, in LA. I had to recall for the tickets as one of my co-workers wanted to go with me. I had to give up my front row ticket and settle for 3rd, row tickets. I, also, had to tell the ticket seller my little story about how these two ladies at the Vegas show had talked during the show. When they talked, they would lean towards each other and block my view. So some of the show I couldn't get a clear view of what Mr. Copperfield was doing.
My co-worker and I went to the LA show and sat in front of a person who helped with a illusion. My co-worker wouldn't even try an catch the brick that Mr. Copperfield was throwing around. We enjoyed the show and went home without getting an autograph.
So in March 1992, I made plans to go to Vegas to see a Copperfield show. Stayed at Caesar's Place and got a new outfit for the show. I had lost weight and everything was too big on me. I got my ticket, seat 1, table 101. I'm thinking it's god's country, nose bleed section. That night, the waiter lead me to my seat. It was next to the stage and I could put my hand on the stage. As the showroom filled, nobody was sitting in front of me and I had a clear view. It would stay this way even when somebody tried to sit in the chairs in front of me. The waiter would tell them that the seats were reserve. I was happy that the people didn't show up. Now the tables are at a 90 degree angle to the stage.
The show starts and I'm one happy camper. I had this clear view and so did anybody who was on the stage. During the first half of the show Mr. Copperfield kept looking over in my direction. Then during the second half of the show, he really kept looking over in my direction. I thought that somebody or somthing had caught his eye. When the show had ended, Mr. Copperfield, took one of his bows in front of me. He gives me this big smile and a quick wink. I couldn't get to that autograph line fast enough.
I had made up my mind that I was going to tell him what my letter had said. I screwed up all of my courage and when my turn came, I walked up to him and said," Hi. You're brillant." His face lit up with this huge smile that went from ear to ear. He then mouth the words thank-you, twice. I was in 7th heaven. Plus I had him do a autograph for my co-worker. Mr. Copperfield had already started to sign the picture and when I told him that it was a gift and that I would spell the name he stoppped writing. In the corner of the picture was the first two letters of my name and then there's my co-workers name. RUBEN! It was funny way to sign and I wonder if MR. Copperfield knew my name.
The next day I made a reservation to this resturant at Caesar's. I had a coupon for a dinner. Got to the resturant and showed them the coupon. The waiter explain that it was a special menu and that if I order off the regular menu that I would have to pay the difference. I order off the regular one and ran the bill up as I was only going to eat at this fancy place once. I had my own waiter and busboy. I would just look in their direction and they would be right over to my table. I felt like I was a VIP. Nobody else was getting the same kind of service that I was getting. When it came time to pay the bill, they told me to just sign it and to forget about the tip. I had run that bill up well over the coupon. The bill was 0. I thought that I had done a room charge but they never ask me my room number and the dinner charge never showed up on my final bill for my stay.
Somebody paid for my fancy meal. I don't know who but I have an idea, but no proof.
To this day, David Copperfield is very sweet and so nice to his special fans. He has always said that if you find a way into his heart, then you will see it shining through.

You know, I never gave magic much thought until I went to see Sigfried and Roy in Vegas and I was so shocked and really amazed.  It really does blow your mind.  Good stuff.  It is wonderful when you find someone who can bring out the good mojo for you! He sounds like a classy guy.
