Help! I've been trying to buy some new walking shoes but can't seem to find any that will accommodate my very wide feet that turn in when I walk. Of course I have joint involvement across the joints of my toes. I have some very old lace up Easy Spirits that I'm trying to replace because they're not very cushiony any more. I just bought some very expensive New Balance that seemed comfortable in the store, but when I got them home and walked around in them they weren't very flexible.  Turns out they are not leather (but still cost .) Has anyone had luck with shoes that are synthetic, or should I stick with leather? I have one pair of Clarks sandals that are that foamy stuff. They're great but I can't wear sandals in the rain and cold. The shoes I got recently keep you from pronating but now my knees and hips hurt. Help! What do you people wear?

I wear mule type styles... through Birkenstock and the Arizona with rag wool socks.   Even in Michigan I can wear these all year round especially with the rag wool socks.   They are not cheap by any means but, I can say that I have had most of mine for over 4-5 years.   Also, Nike makes a "shox" mule type tennis shoe that is great on my knees and feet.   It's like wearing slippers.    I bet that I bought 20 pairs of shoes until I found ones that worked for my feet, pain and to accommodate the swelling at all times.   Thank God for the inter-net and free returns to most stores.

Good luck !!!!

Thanks for the advice Olive.  I'll check them out.  My new shoes are already boxed and teady to go back to the store. They're on 2 week approval.I highly recommend a Merrell shoe.  They have slides and clog style for slip on, but good support.  I really swear by them.  I also even love their thong style sandals.  They are good for wide feet too.

There is an incredible difference to me in a Merrell shoe and another.  I also have fallen in love with Dansko shoes.  I got a pair of those recently and they are also heaven.

Both are pretty high in price but worth it.
Crocs are the only thing I can wear these days, wide and roomy and soooo comfy.  I have my whole family turned onto them. Thanks everyone. I'm off to try to buy shoes. I have the same problem as Lindak. I can't buy shoes w/o trying them on first. I found a store that sell only wide shoes and I have had good luck there. However, when I went to replace my Hush Puppies with a new pair I was told that they don't make them any more. I can't wear cheap shoes, not enough support for me. I have to have something that will keep my foot from turning to the outside. I've got so many shoes, that now don't work for me, that I need to go to Goodwill to donate them.
Try to look for the crocs but couldn't find them in the store. I want to see if I can find something that I can wear with a nice dress. My tennis shoes don't work!
I'm going to look in Macy's to see what they have.

MarisaYou can find crocs at Dillards, Journeys, Academy and Sports Authority.I have to wear orthotics in whatever shoe I have, so I can't wear mules, although I love a big collection of clogs & mules that I haven't had the heart to get rid of yet. I'm going to try the Merrells & Crocs. Unfortunately, my feet are really skinny, which makes it even harder. Narrow shoes with a big toe box are almost impossible to find. I've seen Dansko shoes, so I'll have to check them out.
Let us know how you all do.  I am really obsessed with finding a variety of shoes.  I am going to do some shoe shopping the next time I have extra money. Finally found a pair of shoes I think I can live with.  They are SAS tie shoes that come in wide and have cushioning on the inside.  There are no seams touching the inside. There were some comfortable slip ons that I was tempted to buy, but I think they'd slip in the heel when they got worn in. I will keep all your suggestions under advisement for the next pair I buy. Some of the brands you all mentioned are not in stores here and I'm too afraid to order through internet without trying on.

I wore SAS lace-ups for years and they really worked well as I work on my feet. My orthodics fit nicely in them and I oculd keep them on all day.
