Predisone Experience | Arthritis Information

I have been on low-dose predisone for over a year (2 mg) and have cut down to 1 mg most of the last month.  My goal is to stop the Predisone (at least for a while) and see how I feel.  From your personal experience, would it be better to take 1 mg every other day, or take 1/2 mg every day as I ease away from it?  Thank you!

Sharo,

I was on high dose for 4 years or so. When I finally got down to one ml, I just quit. That doesn't mean you should but if you do, you will know in a day or two if it is right or not. Down to 1 mg means that your adrenal gland is functioning, therefore, you shouldn't have to worry about adrenal shock or insufficiency. Hooray for you for getting off the prednisone.

I've got myself down to 2mg and plan to further reduce to 1mg before stopping it.

All that I have read states that the body naturally produces 5mg to 7mg and by taking less than what the body produces keeps the adrenal gland ticking over. Levlarry & Bodak,

Thank you for your responses.  They are encouraging and much appreciated!
