Ok Ron  you win. I am no longer going to read or participate here. I am a member of a couple other forums and read a lot on RA Warrior.

It's really too bad, but I just don't need the unpleasantness.

Do not feed the trolls!!

Sorry Kathy...

I won't let some idiot make any dictations as to what when or where I will visit..and I certainly can get through the BS to find the good and helpful information!!
There are as many opinions as there are people on the forum and one has to do what feels right for themselves.  Doesn't matter if it's right or wrong to us.  It's how some people handle bullying behaviour.  The forum has gone way beyond having a troll or two, we're knee deep in bullys.  Trolls, most of us just ignore, but bullying is a whole different arena and when there are no forum controls to handle bullies then the administrator isn't any better than the bully.  They're allowing it to go on.  Sort of like schools that allow students to be bullied because the administrators don't follow their own regulations.  This isn't a troll issue, it's a bullying issue and far more dangerous to the forum than mere trolling.

There's a lot of postive aspects to a moderated forum and the ones that I participate in  security isn't an issue and honesty isn't even questioned.  Most of us know one another pretty well by now and eventually the troublemakers go away on their own.  In fact I feel that the security here is in jeopardy.

I'm so troubled that this has been allowed to go on and the administrator hasn't intervened.  If you have a public forum with guidelines then being absent and ignoring the bullys is a great disservice to the people who have helped keep the forum alive.   I'd like for all of us to stick together, no matter what our opinions are. We just need to be cohesive and I guess hope for the best.  I think we've all contacted the administrator about this and how do you feel about being bullied and then ignored?  Lindy

very good points, Snow and LinB...

I am so saddened that the GOOD contributing members are slowing fading away!!

Ernest!! What do you think you will have here if the positive contributing members leave??  oh sure.. there will be others to replace them.. but not of this quality!! not of this longevity... not of this caliber...

I am sorry, Snow...  I hate that you will leave.   I will be in touch.. Always.  *hugs*

I'll miss you too Snow, but like Babs...I'll be in touch This whole thing makes me sad. This is the first board I found when I was diagnosed a few years ago. I found so much support, so much understanding, people who knew what I was going through. And those kind of people are still here! Please don't go, people! I need your input...we all do. I don't understand the kind of hate a person must feel in order to post the things we've read lately. But I'm going to continue to ignore it and hope and pray that enough of the good ones will stay and keep this board going. I appreciate so much the advice and comfort I've received over the years. I miss so many who have left. I feel like I've lost friends that I've never met. And it's sad.

No one should let this perverted CREEP and his followers chase them away. They are CREEPS. Just CREEPS. When they post. Just add the word, CREEP.

OK Lev!  CREEP!! CREEP!!  CREEP!!  Get it???

OK - Sure and I'm going to be slammed again for this, slam away - but I am just so sick of tired of the hurt that is being caused to the wonderful people on this forum.  These people come for help and support, and they in turn give their own help and positive support, in a true spirit of friendship!!

These good people are not stupid, they don't deserve to be abused by you and your aliases!
And then you continue to re-abuse over and over again when you drag up old posts, when you repeat the very nasty postings continuing to use the disgusting language- do you enjoy that too?? - You are more inflammatory that the worst case of RA on this board!! I have noticed that you, as Lev, have sat quietly for a few days too mmmmmmmmm new strategy??

I believe that you have the biggest problem on here!  You are the biggest problem on here!  Nobody has to be the brightest star in the sky to see that!

When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do!!

I noticed a few days ago that someone took a "swing" at you!! I went back to have another look at it!  Wow - it was gone - disappeared - not edited, the whole thing was gone - poof and away, into the ether as if it had never existed!  Already a good number of views when I saw it up on the front page, but no replies... funny that - all gone - not a trace!   Pity that the Moderator of this forum can't act as quickly to get rid of the much worse and vitriolic posters like you and yours!

I'm picking this one may disappear before too many people see it as well, do I care??? Nope!!

I have another little thought too -  If you're not a part of the solution, there's good money to be made in prolonging the problem. mmmmmmm

And no nice gentle words for you tonight on my signature line - I'm not in the mood!! And I'm not a hypocrite!!''  But I've probably done my chips in!!  At least I've got it off my chest! And now I guess I'm for the ether!!!

Edited to add "I apologise for this post to the majority of genuine caring members in this forum of such positive warm and helpful people.  There is of course a gentle word for you!!

Good on you Jeanne....CREEP is the most appropriate word for this poor excuse of humanity.
I have just returned to arthritisinsight after being away a few years and am amazed to see the same sick individuals playing their inconsequential bullying games amongst a community that was built on care and compassion for others. LynnB is so right when she suggests the forum is knee-deep in bullies and I assume the moderator of this forum just doesn't exist. Having had R/A for nearly 30 years, I've met some wonderful people on this forum and I know there still are some incredible, strong individuals motivated by compassion and generosity to help others here. Perhaps the English Dictionary needs a new word for deranged lurkers who feed their pitiful egos on the real medical problems of others. Or perhaps this site just needs a moderator who cares about subscribers to the forum. Fare-thee well friends... the interface of vulgarity is too much for me here. May I wish you happiness and peace.
Bumping so people can see what is happening to this forum ..........

(and I admit to being a catalyst to some of the trouble, has to be that way)
Bump...

Hilary Wilson of Duluth, Ga., now 60, was officially diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis or RA in 1987, but she is pretty sure she had the inflammatory arthritis long before that.

RA is a chronic disease, marked by inflammation of the lining of the joints. It can lead to chronic joint pain, loss of functioning and disability.

But some people with RA manage to thrive despite their condition – and that describes Wilson. Ever since the diagnosis, Wilson has followed a healthy lifestyle designed to keep stress -- and her symptoms --under control. She follows the same plan, whether her life is hectic or more relaxed.

"I take steps to help my arthritis, regardless of the stress level," she tells WebMD. That means taking yoga three days or more a week, walking between 8 and 12 miles weekly, and keeping her weight down (she has some clothes from high school she still fits into).

It also means keeping her sense of humor. "I can't flex my head back," she says, as the RA has affected her cervical spine and therefore her neck functioning. It's not uncommon for people to ask her what's up with that, but she easily explains and laughs it off. A sense of humor, she discovered, helps minimize stress, too.

Wilson, who works as an independent management consultant and is on the board of the Arthritis Foundation in Georgia, says she has never noticed a link between the amount of stress she is experiencing on the job and a worsening of symptoms. And her healthy lifestyle, focused on managing stress, could well be the reason.

Stress and RA: The Link

The cause of RA remains unknown, according to the Arthritis Foundation. But most experts agree that genetic and environmental factors play a role, including the body's response to stressors such as physical or emotional trauma. That does not mean, however, that stress alone can cause RA.

"In general, it's felt that stress does not cause RA," says Scott Zashin, MD, a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and attending physician at Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas.

However, he says, a stressful event, such as the loss of a loved one or marital stress, may trigger the RA to develop at that time. "That doesn't mean it wouldn't have developed at another time," he tells WebMD.

Patience H. White, MD, vice president for public health for the Arthritis Foundation agrees. While stress alone will not cause RA, it's one of many factors that may play into getting the disease and the severity of symptoms.

The picture can become complicated from patient to patient. "Many patients with RA have secondary fibromyalgia," Zashin says. Fibromyalgia is a body-wide pain condition, with tender points at the joints, muscles, and tendons and other tissues.

How does stress affect inflammation? According to White, the research is mixed on that.

But whatever that relationship, stress can wreak havoc, she says. "When you are stressed, you don't sleep well," she says. You can get achy. "People with RA have morning stiffness. If they haven't slept well, it feels worse. Once you get tired, you have no resistance to stress."

Some facts are indisputable: stress can make pain, and your whole body, feel worse. Chronically high levels of stress aren't good for anyone.

Stress and RA: How to Stay in Control
