Appt With Rheumatologist | Arthritis Information

How long does a first appointment with a rheumatologist generally last? I have an appointment with a new rheumy next week, and am trying to figure out how much time I should allow for the appointment. The new doc is in a town an hour away from my home, and I need to go back to work after the appointment, if at all possible.

Thank you,
V

My first appt with my RD took almost 2 hours...But maybe because this isn't your first time it will be a lot less This is my first time with this rheumatologist, though, Lynn. And, the others I saw spent five to ten minutes with me, even on my first appointment. Sigh. I hope this rheumy is a keeper. I will plan on an hour, I thing, but I will stay as long as she wants me to stay. I am ready to get some help!

Thanks so much,
VVee,

I sure hope everything goes well with this appt.  I think an hour sounds good

Let us know how things turn out!

Take care,

Lynn
I would think 1-2hrs.  Don't forget, you'll probably have a ton of paperwork to fill out as well.

Hope this appt gives you the answers you need.
Agree with the others...at least an hour, maybe two if you factor in all the new paper work. Good luck Vee, and let us know how it goes. I think I already have most of the paperwork filled out! I received a package in the mail, and I filled out a detailed medical history, and there is a diagram where you circle which joints hurt, etc. I think this woman is on the ball! Thanks to all for your encouragement. I hope she is a good doc.

Peace,
VKeeping my fingers crossed for you Vee, that this will be the RD that works for you! They sound pretty organized so far! Good luck!

I just went from a long time Naval Rheumatologist to a civilian one.  The navy RD took about and hour and half to get all the information that was needed and then examine me.  While the civilian had all the work done by his nurse assistant (20 mins) and then maybe spent another 20 to 25 minutes with me... (didn't leave me impressed either.)

With travel time, sitting to be called time and then the paper work-up time, plus your physical exam. I am thinking you may need to take a half a day off from work.

Good Luck with your new Rheumy.
