Increase in Orencia infusions | Arthritis Information

I am so excited that my insurance has approved for me to have my infusions every 3 weeks instead of every 4. By the time the 3rd week ends I am in so much pain that it takes almost 2 weeks for it to kick in-then I have only one good week. My doctor didn't think they approve this due to what the drug reps had told him but he was willing to put in a request for it and I got the call Monday. I know that this medication is strong and has serious side effects but I am willing to take the chance. To me this is great news that I am very excited about and wanted to share it with all of you...I had no idea that Orencia would be considered for less than the prescribed time frame.  Be careful and at the first sign of infection see your primary or RD.  Don't put if off.  I wish I had been able to continue with it because after my 2 infusion I had several days the week after that infusion that were pain free.  Good luck.  LindyLindy, I was on Orencia for almost two years, the last year my Orencia was bumped up to every two weeks. No problem what so ever. In fact, the Simponi I am now on, was bumped up to every two weeks also. Like I've said before, most of these medications work for me in the beginning. Then I build up antibodies, and they become totally ineffective. Maintaining the dose, and lessening the time frame between infusions/injections gave me a little boost for almost a year. Not ideal, I'm sure, but my RD approved it, and if anything, he errs on the side of caution...which is why he's hesitant to start me on Actemra.

Anyway ithurts, I'm glad your doctor and insurance company have approved the 3 week dosing, but like Lindy said, you need to be extra observant for any sign of infection or fever. I hope this does the trick for you! Be sure and let us know how it goes.
Gale, had no idea, see even at my age learn something daily.  I knew that Simponi, Enbrel and Humira could be given biweekly. My RD said the same thing about Actemra and won't recommend.  Only leaves Rituxan but no go for any of them until cardio issues sorted out or maybe never.  Lindy
