Need advice on strenghtening immune system | Arthritis Information

Hi there!

I hope everyone is as "pain free" as possible

I've been on Methotrexate for several months now, and my PA is doing much better...however my immune system has been "extremely" compromised! I knew this would happen, but never expected it to be this bad...

In the past two months, I have been to three small parties...and one or two days after each party I've come down with a "terrible cold!" I get the: body aches, sore throat, cough and just feel horrible...(it feels more like the flu at times...).

I've worked with kids for 16 yrs; so I've been pretty immune to colds for a long time-until now!

Help! Any advice is welcome...

Thanks,

Sandy.
Sandy,

Not sure about "boosting" your immune system but what I had to do was adjust to having a compromised immune system.

I quit being so social. I quit shaking hands. I made sure to not put my fingers up to my eyes, nose or mouth after being social or in social places. I made sure that I always carry hand cleaners in my car and as soon as I get in from a social place, I clean my hands.

With us having a overactive immune system, we have to be careful about "boosting" our immune system .

Not sure this will be of much help but keep your hands clean and be careful being social.

With that being said, I do take a multiple vitamin, eat a Mediterranean diet, take omega 3s, Vit. D. and my immune system still sucks!!You should concentrate on working with your rheumatologist to develop a plan that works best for you. Every patient is different and what works for one many times does not work for another. This maybe more true for you than others because of the combination of conditions that you have. Maintain a healthy diet, plenty of water and exercise regularly and stay positive.

Thank-you all for taking the time to respond to my post. I think you are all right-I have to get used my "new lifestyle..." and just be even "more" careful.

Before all this, I already washed my hands TONS of times a day, use hand-sanitizer as much as possible, and was just very careful...I guess I just have to accept that I am now more sensitive.

Thanks again!

Sandy.
