Chipmonk Cheek Club | Arthritis Information

So we have formed a new club.

If you have chipmonk cheeks (I describe my cheeks as looking like a chipmonk carrying nuts to store for the winter) from taking Prednsione, you are already a member!
Since misery loves company, feel free to share/vent with the rest of us your stories. I love humor, so the funnier the better for me.

If you HAD chipmonk cheeks from taking Prednisone, and they went away, share with the rest of us how long that took and whether or not you had to be totally off the Prednsione, etc.

Once I got down to 10mg of prednisone I started noticing a difference in my cheeks.  It was slight but still a reduction.  Now I am at 4.5mg and I think I am getting pretty much back to normal.  It's been so long I'm not sure what normal is anymore.

But anyway there is some relief in sight but I still have the belly fat.  Between steroids and menopause I'm not sure which is the culprit.  I'm not really overweight but the fat has just settled in my midsection and I don't like it at all.
Oh, russellcat, I didnt realize you were a female! Sorry for the goof.

The other area I have (extra) fat now is just below my neck, between my shoulder blades. Kind of hard to tell on me, since I am overweight already. But I notice it why I ly down at night. I think they have a prednisone related name for it, but it escapes me now.

Thanks for the encouraging words about the chipmonk cheeks going away. I am still at 18 1/2, so I guess mine will not start to go away yet.
I'm trying to be at 5.5 mg now (not sure if it will last) and apparently still have chipmunk cheeks! I wonder if it's because I'm heavier overall ? I just hope it will all go away when I'm off pred .

I think it's the buffalo hump you are referring to when you say about the extra fat between the shoulder blades.  I never really noticed how bad mine was until it disappeared at some stage whilst on the very low doses (below 5mg).  Now on 0.5mg I have suddenly become aware that I am standing up really straight again with my shoulders back, something that was obviously impossible to do until recently

Being on this low dose now, I probably don't meet the criteria to be a member of the Chipmonk Cheek Club!

Glad to read that several of you are feeling some improvement - keep it up!

So Pearl, I forgot to ask. Did you have the chipmonk cheeks and they went away? If so, do you remember at what dose you started to notice a difference?Nanatjjj
I'm not sure of the exact dose at which the hamster face disappeared - I think it happened so gradually that I wasn't really aware until one day I looked in the mirror and saw someone I remembered!hi  all i to have these problems although i dont think i have got the hump. the chin causes another problem for me which is snoring it makes me make this deep throaty snoring sound does anyone else find this
I have the cheeks and the chin and my husband says my snoring has gotten as bad as our beagle's. (not a good thing...).      I also have the buffalo hump. No weight gain though.    What next? I'm also much "hairier". Never was before.   Have started to trim my forearms. UGH!
JannieJannie, you are not the bearer of good news, but I laughed out loud!
I think my husband may agree about the snoring.

Maybe the spouses should have their own support group!

I am in denial about more hair. Just a few more to pluck from the chin maybe.
