Dukan diet | Arthritis Information

Hi all, I've not posted for a long while. So here goes. Has anyone tried the Dukan eating plan? I started it a week ago, lost A few pounds, feel fine, full, not tired but on Monday the roof of my mouth got hives, my wedding ring finger became itchy, so I removed my rings, this morning my skin was super stingy on my face. Tongue has been sensitive for about 4 days. don't know if it could be down to the protein, or the splender ( which I use sparingly because far from being sweet I find it has a bitter aftertaste). On Saturday, hands which have been fine for ages hurt like hell. I don't know if the symptoms are caused by the eating plan or whether it's just been coincidence. Any ideas gratefully received.

Uh oh....your mouth issues sound like the Thrush I developed a couple of weeks ago. First I thought the toungue sensitivity was a vitemin deficiency but about a week later it turned into fulll blown Thrush; with white spots on my tongue, down my throat & all along my gum line. Took 3 days in the hospital to get some relief!

As for the splenda; I find I like Equal (and it's generic forms) better. No bitterness or after taste. I did find it excessively sweet in the beginning, tho.

I have no idea what the rash is about.
Hope this helps. (And REALLY hope you're not deverloping Thrush!)
Thanks for the reply NJ, thrush seems likely, probably due to the change in eating. That said i dont have any white spots yes. We don't seem to have a lot of sweeteners in the uk which don't have sorbitol or aspartame in, both of which my body doesn't like. The dukan diet is like the Atkins but the French version with quite a few differences. I do se my rheumy tomorrow so I will ask him being as no-one here seems to know whether or not the high protein, low carb, low fat diet is causing my hands and one toe to hurt. I'll report his advice tomorrow :0)
Saw my RD on Wednesday. Re the protein diet, he said he hadn't heard of anything suggesting that type of diet causing inflammation, but to take it gentle and if anything stirred then to stop.

Re the hives in my mouth, seems I've an allergy to Balsamic vinegar. Due to the diet I've used it every day ( for themlast 2 weeks) on my salads. Didn't have any since last post but had some today, mouth and Tongue swelle

I also had my feet xrayed at the hospital. Big toe joint very swollen and very painful at night. RD hoping it's normal arthritis but suspects with the pain at night it might not be. So it's wait and see.

Also asked him about having Typhoid and Hep A injections. He said under no circumstances do I ever have a live vaccine. Can have the typhoid and hep a because in vaccine form they are not live, and that I don't need to stop the MTX to have them so will start saving to go to Thailand. My son is backpacking around Thailand at the mo an it looks the most amazing place. He has been working in Australia for a year and flies home on aug. 12th, I just can't wait for a big hug
