Hi everyone, I'm new to the boards. I was diagnosed with RA in 8/04. I've been on MTX (15mg) for 7 months, started the prednisone in 8/04 and I'm now down to 1mg. I've gained soooooooo much weight. I'm wondering if anyone on these meds have issues with their feet. My feet are very itchy and dry around the toes. This has never happened before. I also tire quickly. Can't walk around or even stand for too long anymore. I'm 45 and feel like and beginning to look like I'm 65. Any help?

These autoimmune diseases are known for making us tired.  Have the dr check you for hypothyroidism too you may have it.  They will put you on  synthroid, you may want to ask the dr about a good vitamin most of us take vitamins too.  Rest is extememly important I was told we should be sleeping at least 7hrs, preferably 8 hrs, a night.  as for the itchy feet, I have pa and psoriaisis and my feet get very dry and itchy I usually put a petroleum base, like vaseline, auqaphor, etc ointment all over them, at night, put a pair of socks on them and they seem to be a bit better in the morning, if it looks really red and scaley in between your toes have the dr look at it you could have atheletes feet, or possibly a yeast infection.  Let us know what happens and  WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!!!

memeI agree about sleep and vitamins.  Folic acid and b complex will help with the fatigue.  I would also use a good cream on your feet at bed time every night with socks over.  It will help with the dry skin.

Prednisone advances aging too.
Valz-welcome!!

I have a lot of problems with my feet too-. Also, my
skin is really dry lately. I feel dehydrated a lot and am
triing to drink ots more water. I totally understand
about the weight...I have gained about 35 pounds!!

Lots of great information on this board; glad your
here!

Ha! Meme-thats funny...8hrs of sleep per night you say? Sounds lovely. I can only hope that I get 6 decent hours of sleep.

Welcome Valz!

Thank you all for your responses and for welcoming me to the board. What can I say I laughed at the rd too.  But he told me he was serious I am lucky to sleep 6hrs at a time, I am still trying to get my body back to working days instead of 3rd shift.  meme

Dry/Itchy feet is not funny, although I am laughing at mine.  Every year at this time they start itching, look all dried up and about a 100 years old. Not a pretty site.

First make sure you are not suffering from a fungus. Have your doctor look at them.

I use Epson salts in a warm tub of water 3 times a week (soak for 20 minutes keeping the water warm).  May not take all the itch away, (I will use a foot cream just for hot itchy feet) but sure makes my toes and feet feel good and does remove the build up of dead dry skin in between your toes. Will take a few weeks to work but it will help and it's safe.

ALso, try to keep your feet and toes as dry as you can.  Make sure they are dried after every bath or shower.

I know when my feet don't feel good, neither do I.

Hi, I think most of us are chronically tired and probably have dry itchy feet too. All of my skin is dry due to Sjogren's. Have you tried one of those melted parafin treatments for you hands and feet.  It makes them soft and moisturizes them too and well as being warm and comfortable.I haven't tried the parafin treatments but I have been using moisturizers.
